Description
Job SummaryTexas Research Institute (TRI) Austin (a subsidiary of TRI International) is a small business with a 40-year history in applied materials science research and development for government and private industry. The Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) division designs and integrates sensors, instrumentation, software analysis toolsets, and inspection techniques for a wide range of projects. Our firm seeks an Electrical Engineer to support these development efforts in a multi-disciplinary and intellectually stimulating environment.
Key Responsibilities- Design low-voltage DC and AC power distribution systems
- Design, implement, and maintain multi-axis motion control systems
- Prototype and design customized sensors or implement commercial-off-the-shelf products
- Use application programming interfaces to control basic electronic systems
- Design, validate, and review PCB and circuit boards
- Assemble electrical components into larger systems using technical drawings, schematics, and written direction
- Apply digital signal processing techniques to a wide variety of sensor data
- Develop embedded systems based on employing bare-metal programming
- Program microcontroller and FPGA based systems for a range of different applications
- Troubleshoot and repair end-of-life and legacy electronics
- Document progress and activities and summarize in regular internal and government reports
- Write and review technical proposals

Qualifications- B.S. or M.S. degree in electrical engineering related field is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in an electrical engineering position
- Experience working with a diverse range of engineering and technical backgrounds
- Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD security clearance is mandatory (https://www.dss.mil/ma/tw/dvd/vroc/faqs/).
Skills and Competencies- Develop methodologies to acquire, process, and interpret THz and other NDE measurement data
- Familiarity with PCB and circuit design and simulation software such as Altium or KiCAD
- Previous experience with NDE inspection methods such as eddy current, ultrasound, and EM
- Familiarity with analog, RF, or microwave frequency circuit design
- Possess a high level of proficiency in technical writing
- Have an independent, self-starter mindset and be driven to learn and tackle challenges outside of your comfort zone
Physical Requirements- Ability to walk, stand, and lift up to 50 pounds as needed
- Ability to use a computer workstation
Work Environment- Combination of office and laboratory work
- Exposure to mechanical rooms, electrical equipment
- Travel occasionally required for project needs
