About the Role

The Principal R&D Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, testing, and commercialization of advanced electrical and electronic systems supporting Drill Bits & Services technologies.

This role serves as a technical leader within the engineering organization, providing electrical engineering expertise across product development programs while supporting the design, integration, and validation of downhole electronics, sensor systems, power management systems, and related technologies. The position collaborates closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver reliable, innovative, and field-proven solutions that support current and future drilling technologies.

In addition to technical execution, this role helps establish engineering standards, mentors less experienced engineers, and drives continuous improvement in electrical design practices and product development processes.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the design, development, testing, and qualification of electrical and electronic systems supporting drilling tools and related technologies.
• Develop electrical architectures, schematics, component selections, and design documentation for new product development initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership for multiple product development projects, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, quality, and HSE requirements.
• Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, systems, manufacturing, and field engineering teams to deliver integrated product solutions.
• Apply advanced engineering techniques and emerging technologies to solve complex technical challenges and improve product performance.
• Develop and review design calculations, engineering analyses, test procedures, and technical documentation.
• Support product verification, validation, qualification testing, and field trial activities.
• Perform design reviews, root cause investigations, reliability assessments, and corrective action activities.
• Contribute to development of engineering standards, design processes, tools, and best practices.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the organization.
• Support intellectual property development through invention disclosures, patent generation, and technology innovation.
• Represent Halliburton with customers, suppliers, industry organizations, and technical forums as required.

Qualifications

Required
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical engineering, electronics development, embedded systems, product development, or related technical fields.
• Experience designing, developing, and testing electrical or electronic systems for industrial, energy, aerospace, defense, or similar applications.
• Strong understanding of electrical design principles, component selection, circuit design, and system integration.
• Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through commercialization.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.

Preferred
• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience with downhole electronics, drilling tools, sensor systems, telemetry, embedded hardware, or oilfield technologies.
• Experience with reliability engineering, environmental qualification testing, and design verification methodologies.
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across projects.
• Familiarity with industry standards, product development processes, and engineering quality systems.

Candidates who possess qualifications exceeding the minimum job requirements may be considered for higher-level positions based on experience, additional qualifications, and current business needs. Depending on education, experience, and skill level, candidates may be eligible for roles ranging from Principal R&D Electrical Engineer to Advanced R&D Electrical Engineer or Senior Advanced R&D Electrical Engineer.
