Job Summary

Our Medical Device Solutions team develops innovative medical technologies from early concepts through product development and commercialization. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and integration of advanced medical devices and electronic systems.

This role is ideal for engineers with hands-on experience in embedded electronics, analog and digital circuit design, PCB development, and regulated product development environments who enjoy working on multidisciplinary teams to solve complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronic circuits for medical device systems and subsystems.
  • Support concept generation and technical brainstorming to address complex design challenges and evaluate potential solutions.
  • Develop embedded electronics and hardware architectures including microcontrollers, sensors, power systems, and communications interfaces.
  • Perform schematic capture and PCB design/layout using tools such as Altium or similar ECAD platforms.
  • Build, prototype, and evaluate electronic hardware assemblies in laboratory environments.
  • Perform hands-on circuit board assembly, soldering, and rework including surface-mount and through-hole components.
  • Fabricate and assemble wire harnesses and prototype electrical subsystems for test and development.
  • Conduct hardware bring-up, electrical testing, debugging, and fault isolation using laboratory instrumentation.
  • Apply engineering analysis techniques including SPICE simulation, tolerance analysis, signal integrity evaluation, and experimental design.
  • Support development of system architecture, technical requirements, and subsystem specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical engineers, firmware/software developers, systems engineers, and quality specialists.
  • Generate and maintain engineering documentation, verification reports, and test protocols.
  • Support compliance with ISO 13485 quality management systems and design control requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and verification activities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns.
  • Contribute technical input for client proposals and project planning activities.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Technical Skills:
    • Analog and digital circuit design
    • Embedded electronics and microcontroller systems (e.g., ARM-based platforms, STM32, or similar architectures)
    • PCB schematic capture and layout (Altium Designer or similar ECAD platforms)
    • Hardware prototyping and development
    • Electronic troubleshooting, debugging, and fault isolation
    • Use of laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, and programmable power supplies)
    • Hardware prototyping techniques including circuit board assembly, SMT rework, and prototype cable or harness fabrication
    • Hardware verification and test method development
    • Technical documentation and engineering reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Experience with communication interfaces and protocols such as NFC, I2C, SPI, USB, UART, Bluetooth.
  • Experience with RF design, electromagnetic systems, or wireless electronics.
  • Experience with mixed signal electronics including analog front ends, sensor interfaces, and power management circuits
  • Experience with hardware and firmware system integration.
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Experience performing risk analysis using ISO 14971 methodologies.
  • Experience working in regulated development environments including ISO 13485.
  • Experience with medical electrical safety and regulatory standards such as IEC 60601.
  • Experience applying safety and certification standards (IEC, UL, TUV) during product development.
