Electrical Engineer - Instrumentation
Scientist and Engineer III

HX5 is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer with an Instrumentation focus to join the TMAS team at Eglin AFB for the 96 TW (Test Wing). The 96TW is the T&E center for Air Force air-delivered weapons, navigation and guidance systems, Command and Control systems, and Air Force Special Operations Command systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supports the developmental test and evaluation of C-130, B-52, and other fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Performs duties onboard test aircraft during ground operations: pre-flight/pre-ground event instrumentation setup; interfacing with aircrew and test engineers during aircraft ground tests and operations; post-event instrumentation shutdown and media transportation.
  • Develops instrumentation plans and detailed modification packages to support airworthiness certifications.
  • Designs new aircraft and ground station instrumentation systems or modifications to existing equipment.
  • Works with technicians to install instrumentation equipment to include data recorders, data busses, camera systems, audio recording, and discrete sensors on test aircraft.
  • Troubleshoots, and repairs instrumentation systems as required to ensure mission readiness.
  • Develops instrumentation packages to collect test data from aircraft data busses, video/audio systems, weapon systems, and other sources to support test objectives.
  • Works as a member of an integrated product team to develop and test new capabilities for the AF.
  • Works within the guidelines established in Government approved test procedures, method of test (MOT), and go or no-go criteria.
  • Coordinates with integrated test team personnel to thoroughly define data collection requirements to obtain a valid assessment of test item performance.
  • Reviews technical specifications and system design documents.
  • Attends test meetings, technical interchange meetings, and design reviews.
  • Travels to offsite locations and transports equipment as required; performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Must have bachelor's or master's degree in an applicable engineering discipline and three (3) to ten (10) years of technical experience
  • Associates degree in an applicable discipline can be substituted with sufficient relevant experience
  • Must have experience instrumenting digital data busses, video, avionics, and communications systems.
  • Must have experience with instrumenting and recording digital and analog sensors, including accelerometers, thermocouples and strain gauges.
  • Must be able to physically work on or near aircraft in various locations and conditions, including during ground aircraft operations.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications is required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This full-time position requires 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours.

Other Position Requirements:
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance by date of hire.
  • Must be able to travel, including air travel up to 25%.
