Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our well-established team of engineers and designers. This role offers long-term workload stability, exposure to a diverse portfolio of utility and renewable energy projects, and the opportunity to take on increasing technical responsibility across all stages of project delivery. You will work on projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, supporting designs from early concept through construction and commissioning. This role is ideal for an engineer with several years of experience who is ready to contribute technically, take ownership of design deliverables, and support design coordination and execution within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and coordinate the design of electrical substations (12 kV to 500 kV), including layouts and station service systems, with limited supervision
  • Lead the preparation and review of key design deliverables, including: One-line and phasing diagrams; Substation layouts, sections, and equipment arrangements; Grounding/grid layouts and details; Conduit and cable routing plans
  • Perform and independently check engineering calculations, studies, and analyses, including: Grounding studies; Lightning protection; Switchyard illumination; Rigid and flexible bus studies
  • Take ownership of assigned design packages and ensure quality, completeness, and alignment with project requirements
  • Prepare and review engineering documents, including design criteria, technical specifications, reports, and drawing lists
  • Review vendor drawings and technical submissions to ensure compliance with project specifications and design intent
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to RFIs, issuing technical clarifications, and participating in field reviews
  • Participate in and contribute to client meetings, design reviews, and constructability assessments
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil/structural, protection & control, telecom etc.) to ensure integrated and coordinated designs
  • Support project delivery by managing assigned tasks within scope, schedule, and budget constraints
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior EITs and designers, including reviewing work and sharing technical knowledge
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement processes
  • Ensure applicable safety standards, codes, and best practices are integrated into all designs
Qualifications
  • Bachelor9;s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for / working toward P.Eng. designation with EGBC
  • 2 65 years of relevant experience in transmission & distribution or substation design
  • Demonstrated experience in substation design, including layouts, grounding, and bus design; BC Hydro or utility project experience is an asset
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, IEC, CSA, OH&S)
  • Working knowledge of engineering tools such as AutoCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, WINIGS, ETAP, or similar; experience applying these tools in project settings
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to develop practical, technically sound solutions
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment
