Job Title: Engineer III, Electrical

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Engineering

Reports to: Engineering Manager, Electrical

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Engineer III, Electrical is responsible for leading all technical aspects of designing and developing complete electromechanical systems for railroad maintenance of way equipment. They lead the development of the complete electrical system providing technical direction to junior engineers, designers and drafters. Provides engineering support to internal and external customers and performs other tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Functional & Technical Skills
  • Translate requirements into a system architecture and detailed design. Provide input to machine concept development and prepare time and scope estimates for design of new projects.
  • Design and integrate industrial automation and control systems including PLC controls, motor controls, and general machine controls.
  • Determine feasibility of modifying existing or designing new equipment considering costs, time limitations, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Validate designs through analysis and testing.
  • Develop and ensure standardization and best practices for design methods and documentation.

Operational Excellence
  • Coordinate own design efforts as well as other engineers and designers to meet production schedules and provide project task estimates and updates to project team.
  • Research, test and recommend new and emerging technologies and processes for systems and components.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: BS in Electrical Engineering

Experience: 5+ years experience in developing and maintaining electromechanical system designs.

Licenses/Certifications: Obtain and maintain railroad safety training and credentials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of business software including MS Office suite.
  • Collaborate with others to clarify requirements and develop solutions.
  • Lead design reviews consisting of multi-disciplined and cross functional team members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: MS in Electrical Engineering

Experience: 5+ years experience in the following:
    • 480VAC power generation and distribution
    • Engine/generator controls
    • Industrial automation and controls systems
    • Electrical traction systems (DC & AC)
    • Motor controls and variable speed drives
    • Directing individual or small teams of engineers and designers

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Six Sigma Green and PE

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge in Autodesk and ERP software

Compensation:

Loram determines compensation based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, and/or experience. Certain positions may be eligible for an annual bonus and paid time off in addition to base compensation.

The pay range for this position is between $101,100-$151,800
