Scope of Position 

Project Associate is an engineering position that expands upon the knowledge and skills achieved in an entry level position. The primary responsibility is to provide complete engineering and design solutions for assigned projects. Project Associates will utilize assigned design staff to complete project deliverables, while working with senior design staff to continue to develop their understanding of engineering and the project delivery process. Responsibilities include, client communication, construction administration and other various engineering, design and drafting tasks utilizing the applicable drafting software to accommodate the project schedule.  Job Responsibilities 

  • Application of Knowledge of Building Systems (Conceptual Design) 
    • Working knowledge of codes and standards including but not limited to: NFPA 70, 72, 101, 110, 780; UL 96A; ASHRAE 90.1; and Building Codes 
    • Knows when to obtain support from Lead Associate or Senior Associate for assistance to determine building requirements for special occupancies 
    • Assists the Lead Associate or Senior Associate with working with building/facility owner to ensure that the appropriate systems/products are utilized in their facility. 
    • Lighting design, system types, and understanding of the following concepts: 
      • Various lighting and lamp applications 
      • Color temperatures 
      • Lighting rules such as spacing to mounting height ratio, manual point to point calculations, impact of horizontal and vertical footcandles 
      • Life safety requirements (egress and exit marking) 
      • Circuiting and control 
    • Power design 
      • Knowledge of the design of power distribution 
      • Panel schedules 
      • Grounding and lighting protection systems. 
      • Knowledge of the application of emergency systems, legally required systems and optional standby systems. 
      • Coordinates the connections of all power utilization components 
    • Documentation of calculations, reflecting code compliance of the following: 
      • Lighting calculations 
      • Power load calculations 
      • Short circuit and voltage drop calculations 
      • Coordination studies 
    • Fire alarm design 
      • Performs system design
      • Initiation device layout 
      • Smoke detection design 
      • Indicating device layout 
      • Other system interconnections 
    • Telecommunications design 
      • Device layouts 
      • System infrastructure layout 
      • Understanding of the EIA/TIA standards 
      • Security system design 
      • Card access system design, learning system types and understands functional procedures. 
      • CCTV system design 
      • Intrusion detection systems design, understands system types and applications 
    • Paging and intercommunication systems design, system types and applications 
  • Detail Design: 
    • Ensures that there are complete and accurate construction documents 
    • Uses design software proficiently and can incorporate designs into project documents/models. 
    • Effectively execute inter-discipline and intra-discipline review and coordination efforts 
    • Assists lead associate in development of project specifications
  • Design Project Execution 
    • Leads all scopes in delivery of assigned project 
    • Monitors work performed by the assigned project staff. 
    • Responsible for compiling a complete design package issue. 
    • Ensures that all project internal and external comments and markups are incorporated into the project’s design documents and specifications.
    • Works with Design/Engineering Managers to ensure that project schedule will be met and complete documents are provided for each submission. 
    • Develops project within provided design budget and advises additional design fees when scope is expanded.
  • Construction Administration 
    • Understanding of construction project execution process 
    • Supports construction efforts by preparing any required field orders, addenda or other drawing updates 
    • Problem solving for field oversight including Requests for Information (RFI) 
    • Shop drawing/Submittal review 
    • Field observations and reports 
  • Professional Development 
    • Maintains required licensing CEUs by proactively seeking training to expand knowledge 
  • Leadership 
    • Manages assigned staff on the projects 
    • Provides coaching/mentoring of assigned staff promoting individual growth 
    • Engages entire electrical team working with all team members. 
    • Flexible and willing to quickly move between projects as needed to assist in meeting overall project schedules 
  • Travel as required (typically day trips, and usually no more than three days a month)

 

Education & Years of Experience 

  • Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree required.
  • 3-8 years of experience within the electrical engineering discipline as well as project experience on a variety of projects from simple to complex and small to large.

 

Qualifications 

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred, or actively progressing toward licensure

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements: 

While performing the duties of this job, team members may be required to visit alternate locations and therefore must have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to do so. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The team member is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
