What You'll Do Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the role of the Studies Engineer/Designer is to design and execute complex engineering studies aimed at optimizing the safety and efficiency of utility systems. As part of a dynamic engineering team, the Setting Engineer/Designer is responsible to design from conception to completion of projects, and ensures all specifics meet the standards of the industry and the clients.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Perform detailed engineering studies, including load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, and protective relay coordination.
- Apply knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete design packages for substations that include, but are not limited to, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Participate in technical discussions and presentations to clients and internal teams.
- Research and apply relevant industry standards and best practices to improve study methodologies.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Support troubleshooting and problem resolution through field data analysis and study results interpretation.
- Contribute to the preparation of proposals and technical reports for clients.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery.
Additional Information RequirementsWhat We're Looking For - A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required; advanced degrees are a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in the electrical utility engineering sector, with a focus on system studies.
- Preference will be given to candidates that possess previous engineering experience in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
- Experience in construction and field installations considered an asset
- In-depth knowledge of power system analysis software such as ETAP, PSS/E, or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of protective relay settings and coordination, along with relevant industry standards (ANSI, IEC, IEEE).
- Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex technical information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGGA or ASET is preferred.
- A proactive approach to solving engineering challenges and enhancing team performance.
