Job SummaryAt TYLin, we believe exceptional engineers are built through exposure to challenging projects, meaningful responsibility, and strong technical mentorship.
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our growing New York City team, focused on the design and delivery of complex facility and infrastructure projects across aviation, transit, institutional, and public-sector environments.
This is not a role for someone looking to simply produce repetitive new-build designs. We are looking for an engineer who thrives in technically demanding environments - someone who enjoys solving problems within existing facilities, navigating renovations and retrofits, and taking ownership of sophisticated electrical design packages from concept through delivery.
You will play a central role in leading design production efforts for low-voltage building power systems while helping guide and mentor junior engineers and designers. This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious engineer who wants to deepen their technical expertise, become a recognized design leader, and position themselves for future leadership opportunities within a growing engineering practice.
The projects are highly visible, technically complex, and directly impact the infrastructure that keeps major cities moving and operating.
Responsibilities & QualificationsWhat You’ll Work On:
You will support the design and delivery of electrical systems for a wide range of large and complex facilities, including:
Airports and transportation hubs
Transit stations and operational facilities
Institutional and civic buildings
Data centers and mission-critical facilities
Commercial and industrial environments
Major renovation and retrofit programs within occupied facilities
This role will expose you to technically challenging electrical infrastructure work, including:
Low-voltage building power systems
Single-line diagrams and power distribution design
Lighting design and photometric analysis
Electrical rooms and control rooms
Service upgrades and modernization projects
Emergency power and generator systems
Coordination with vertical transportation systems, including elevator power
Multidisciplinary facility coordination within complex operational environments
What You’ll Do:
Lead and support detailed electrical design for low-voltage building power systems across complex facility projects
Take ownership of design production, including development of construction drawings and technical documentation
Develop electrical layouts, single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and distribution system designs
Perform electrical load calculations, equipment sizing, and system coordination studies
Support lighting design and photometric analysis for functional and energy-efficient facility environments
Coordinate closely with architectural, mechanical, structural, and systems engineering teams
Participate in field investigations, site assessments, and construction support activities
Help mentor and support junior engineers and designers, contributing to the technical growth of the team
Serve as a reliable technical contributor capable of working independently and driving design tasks forward with minimal oversight
What We’re Seeking:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Approximately 5-10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
Strong experience in low-voltage electrical design for commercial, industrial, institutional, or infrastructure facilities
Proven expertise developing single-line diagrams, power distribution systems, and lighting designs
Experience with electrical renovations, retrofits, upgrades, and modernization projects strongly preferred
Experience designing within existing or operational facilities is highly desirable
Familiarity with emergency generators, service upgrades, electrical rooms, and control rooms
Experience supporting elevator power systems is considered a major plus
Strong working knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical codes and standards
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
Experience using AGi32 for lighting calculations and photometric analysis
Ability to work independently, proactively solve problems, and confidently take ownership of technical deliverables
The Type of Engineer Who Will Thrive Here:
This role is best suited for someone who is:
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Technically driven and motivated by design excellence
Comfortable operating independently and taking initiative
Energized by complex engineering challenges rather than repetitive production work
Interested in becoming a future technical lead or engineering manager
A strong communicator who can help guide and mentor younger staff
Naturally proactive, accountable, and capable of driving work forward without waiting for direction
