THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON BID AWARD

 

The Electrical Engineer shall provide electrical engineering support for infrastructure systems, modernization, and compliance activities supporting the Uniformed Services University Health Sciences campus

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical consultation for electrical infrastructure repair and modernization projects
  • Develop Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Statement of Work (SOW) documents and estimates
  • Coordination and technical oversight of electrical construction, maintenance, repair, and modernization projects at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS)Support the planning, design review, scheduling, coordination, execution, and commissioning of projects involving facility electrical systems, including interior power distribution, emergency power systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, lighting systems, fire alarm systems, low-voltage communication systems, electronic security systems, and associated building electrical infrastructure.
  • Develop accurate current working estimates
  • Collaborate and participate as a technical advisor in chairing project execution and kick-off meetings, serving as the Technical Representative
  • Perform Quality Assurance and Safety compliance visits
  • Perform design and submittal review.
  • Review design drawings, specifications and cost estimates prepared by Architecture Engineering Firms for technical adequacy and in complied with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and the National Electrical Code.
  • Support project meetings and serve as technical representative
  • Review Architecture and Engineering (A/E) drawings for compliance with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Perform commissioning and system testing for government acceptance of systems delivered through the point-by-point verification of design, installation, functionality and performance of existing and newly installed electrical infrastructure equipment and systems.
  • Support construction ensuring UFC and NEC compliance
  • Support maintenance of power distribution systems, generators, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), lighting and fire alarm systems
  • Provide advisory and technical support to the department for the maintenance, repair, and modernization of major building and physical plant systems, including interior electrical power distribution systems, lighting systems, power generation systems, automatic transfer switches, uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems, power conditioning systems, solid-state electronic controls (e.g., variable frequency drives [VFDs]), energy metering systems, lightning protection and grounding systems, fire alarm and mass notification systems, low-voltage communication systems (e.g., public address systems), video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems, and electronic security systems.
  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and metering equipment, conduct power quality studies and load studies. Provide report with analysis of power quality issues and available spare capacity for system or specific branches, panels, and/or circuits.
  • Provide analysis reports on system performance and capacity
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Minimum three (3) years within the last four (4) years experience
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in design/consulting

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, UFC standards
  • Knowledge of local, municipal, and federal building codes, criteria, and standards.
  • Ability to perform electrical analysis
  • Possess strong reporting skills
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Experience coordinating electrical work in occupied research, laboratory, or healthcare facilities Preferred
  • Experience with DoD or healthcare facilities Preferred
