Job Summary:The Electrical Engineer 2 will provide technical support to Project Engineers, Project Managers or other similar roles by contributing to substation design, electrical power systems studies, and electrical testing activities. This role serves as a foundational stepping stone in the career path toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer.
Supervisory Responsibilities:Duties/Responsibilities:Design and Specification Development
- Design technical drawings per client specifications and scope of work, including:
- Electrical one-line, AC and DC elementary drawings for utility substations and industrial medium voltage systems.
- Grounding drawings and electrical wiring diagrams.
- Conduit and cable trench designs.
- Conduit and cable schedules.
- Prepare equipment specifications for client review, including power transformers, HV and MV circuit breakers, reclosers, stitches, and cables.
Power Systems Studies and Equipment Settings
- Conduct electrical power systems studies using engineering software packages (e.g., short circuit studies, protective coordination analyses, arc flash incident energy analyses, load flow studies).
- Develop protective device settings in accordance with company standards, subject to project manager review.
Review and Testing Support
- Review shop drawings to ensure adherence to plans and specifications.
- Assist with electrical equipment testing activities, such as relay testing, LV/MV circuit breaker testing, and transformer testing.
Team Collaboration and Task Management
- Provide task-level direction to electrical engineering technicians, designers, drafters, and interns.
- Assist project managers by reviewing the work of team members to ensure quality and adherence to project goals.
- Develop new testing procedures under supervisor direction.
Additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.
Attributes/Abilities:- Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
- Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.
- Must have reliable transportation and possess a valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of three-phase electrical power systems, electrical system protection concepts, and electrical machinery theory.
- Ability to perform power systems analyses using engineering software.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Experience and Education:- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited ABET program.
- Successful completion of the Engineering Fundamentals Examination.
- 2+ years of relevant experience.
Physical Requirements:- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Ability to work safely around electrical and mechanical hazards.
- Potential exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
