Overview

The Electrical Designer II is recognized as being capable of performing difficult and technically challenging work which may be assigned to them within their engineering specialty. May oversee portions of a project and may be assigned the project leader responsibility on small projects.

 

Reports to a Group Leader but takes direction from Project Manager with minimal supervision. Perform complex design duties as assigned/directed by the Engineer of record. May not change the scope of work or deviate from any part of the overall budgeted contractual document without Project Manager’s approval. Coordinate work of staff within the project.

 

The Electrical Designer II will support leadership in client development and maintaining the satisfaction of existing clients.

 

Using prescribed methods, performs specific and daily assignments from a Senior Engineer. Applies standard practices and techniques in situations, adjusts and gathers data, and follows operations through a series of related steps to comply with industry standards/techniques. Performs a variety of technical tasks, including:

 

  • Prepare lighting and power designs, panel schedules, electrical calculations, and energy code compliance forms.
  • Performs engineering assignments with clear and specified objectives and involving conventional types of plans and specifications.
  • Under minimal supervision: [lans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of professional work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
  • Review work for the application of sound professional judgment.
  • Performs design calculations and prepares equipment or material specifications.
  • Familiar with the AE design process and specifications leading to construction documents.
  • Prepare graphical representations of designs.
  • Assignments require the investigation of a limited number of variables and supervisory assistance is provided on unusual problems.
  • May supervise or coordinate the work of drafters and other technical support personnel.
  • Experience in the design of commercial, retail, hospitality, governmental buildings, small industrial plants, warehouses, and/or central chilled water and heating plants.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in electrical engineering or the equivalent thereof.
  • Software: Proficient with MS Office software; including MS Word, Excel; AutoCAD and/or Microstation; and Building Information Management (BIM) Revit.  Experience with SKM, EasyPower, or EDSA software.
  • Experience in lighting, power, grounding, lightning protection, signal, communication, controls and fire detection systems designs.
  • Experience in performing design calculations and preparing equipment or material specifications
  • Experience with all phases of project management and production
  • Experience in budgeting, scheduling, planning facility design projects
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and design codes
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills to peers, managers, and clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a fast-track environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Physical Demands: This position requires sitting for extensive periods of time. Moreover, the nature of the tasks place high demand for strong visual acuity.

 

Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional registration as a licensed Electrical Engineer preferred; PE registration in the State of California preferred.
  • Valid CA drivers’ license required.
  • LEED Accredited Professional certification a plus

The pay range for this California position is $92,000- $120,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per California Senate Bill 1162.
