Job Description

Broad Function and Purpose of Position:

Develop, organize, administer, and maintain the Company's Environmental Health & Safety Program. Minimize the number and reduce the severity of in-plant accidents and injuries while maintaining the efficiency of the Corporation and the well-being of its employees and customers, as well as the community. The EH&S Program must comply with all federal, state, corporate and international policies and procedures. The EH&S Program must be goal-oriented and driven towards continuous improvement.

Specific Responsibilities:

Environmental, Health & Safety Program management:
  • Act as the authority in all areas of Environmental, Health & Safety, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene.
  • Coach leadership team on safe behaviors, conditions, and techniques for improved safety culture.
  • Develops, implements, and ensures that training in all areas of EH&S is maintained
  • Completes and reviews Job Hazard/Safety Analysis (JHA/JSA) for all facility jobs/work tasks.
  • Lead Lean Safety Gemba daily to review and identify hazards in given production areas
  • Ensure leadership team and supervisors enter safety hazards into Sphera (EHS Management System)
  • Lead and manage incident/accident investigation processes for near misses and all injuries.
  • Communicates root cause actions needed within 48 hours of near miss or injury.
  • Complete New Hire Orientation for temporary and full-time employees
  • Lead weekly EHS meetings to review audit and other open actions, additional EH&S data, etc.
  • Integrate all Corporate and Regional Environmental, Health & Safety programs into daily operations.
  • Implement and Oversee ongoing Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Communicate weekly "Safety Starters" to production manager for training of all employees
  • Submit monthly and yearly State and Federal EH&S reports
  • Maintain EMS ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) program
  • Implement and maintain OHS ISO 45001 (Occupational Safety & Health) program
  • Manage EHS software systems for regulatory compliance
  • Assist maintenance with contractors' selection, onsite scope of work tour, etc.
  • Assist Human Resources regarding workers compensation case details from injury reports and follow-up analysis needed once employee returns to work.
  • Maintain the Injury and Illness Tracking Programs.
  • Manage programs such as GENSUITE Compliance Manager to ensure legal compliance with all EH&S applicable internal requirements and local and federal regulations and rules.
  • Lead all Near Miss, and Accident Investigation root cause analysis. Implement corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Establish targets and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives.
  • Work with the Human Resources Department Workman's Compensation team to reduce costs associated with lost time injuries and assist in developing return to work program.


Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in occupational safety, environmental health science, or similar degree.
  • 3-5 years professional experience in occupational safety, environmental, or similar role(s); or

5-10 years professional experience in occupational safety, environmental, or similar role(s).
  • Automotive or similar manufacturing backgrounds preferred
  • OSHA 30 General Industry, environmental and occupational safety certifications preferred, but not required.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and influence skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Knowledge of the following areas: EPA (Environmental) OSHA (Occupational Safety), and similar regulations and reporting.
  • Experience leading safety events, driving safety improvements on the shop floor, in the offices and as part of the Leadership team.
