Description:
This is a contract position supporting NOAA's Office of Education (OEd) which provides advice and counsel to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere in matters pertaining to education. The office, in conjunction with the Education Council, coordinates educational activities across NO nd develops NOAA's Education Strategic Plan and policy. These efforts help to ensure that NOAA's education programs and activities are based on NOAA science and support the agency's cross-cutting priority of promoting environmental literacy. The Office of Education directly implements and manages scholarship programs aimed at fostering American competitiveness in science by providing quality educational opportunities for the next generation.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the operations of the NOAA Outreach Center including maintaining collections of major education and outreach products from across the Agency; designing and developing new education and outreach products to fill gaps and respond to audience needs; disseminating such products to educators, students, and the public; responding to general public inquiries about NO nd NOAA education; providing guidance and expert advice to NOAA staff engaged in public outreach activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support NOAA education participation in education conferences, meetings, workshops, civic events, etc., including NOAA-wide events like NOAA Kids Day. Coordinate with internal and external partners as needed.
  • Work closely with the NOAA OEd Communications team to ensure a coordinated approach for education outreach and communications efforts for NOAA's OEd and the NOAA education community. Coordinates with educational outreach professionals across NOAA to ensure consistency of approach and share best practices and lessons learned.
  • Support the NOAA Education web portal and maintain thematic collections of education content from education efforts across the Agency.
  • Conduct needs assessments and coordinate focus groups with members of target audiences to understand their needs and to get their input on new or existing education and outreach products.
  • Develop concepts and designs for educational exhibits for NOAA booths at educational conferences and coordinate fabrication and installation of such exhibits.
  • Support the design and development of outreach products in other media, such as video, audio, podcasts, etc. to promote NOAA education to target audiences.
  • Support intra-agency and inter-agency education efforts under the NOAA Education Council, NOAA Research Council, Interagency Working Group on Ocean Education, and other internal or external committees of groups. Respond to email, telephone, postal mail, and in-person education and outreach inquiries from NOAA staff, educators, students, researchers, and members of the public.
  • Support outreach initiatives from across the agency (e.g., NO mbassadors).
