Meet the Team

Secret Media Network is a digital media group of inspiring online city guides around the world, focused on recommending perfect plans, discovering great places, and sharing relevant breaking news. Our network is composed of Secret London, Secret Chicago, Secret LA, Secret NYC, Secret Atlanta, Secret Miami, Secret Toronto, Lisboa Secreta, Paris Secret, Madrid Secreto, Barcelona Secreta, and more!

The RoleYou will serve as the Editor for Secret LA, reporting directly to the Managing Editor for the region. In this role, your responsibilities will include:
  • Find brilliant stories and generate content ideas (not just articles!) for the LA market
  • Manage a small but growing team of enthusiastic local writers, video producers, and social media creatives
  • Write engaging, accurate and informative articles, at pace, about those topics
  • Monitor all site content, including daily news, features, and local reporting
  • Have a strong grasp of the city culture and things to do in LA
  • Manage an editorial calendar with colleagues that incorporates news, events, and local city content, including planning for longer lead functions, trending stories, and campaigns
  • Make occasional appearances across Reels, TikTok, consumer-facing videos and other brand mediums
  • Oversee the strategy and output across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Secret LA newsletters, keeping in line with SMN standards
  • Stay up-to-date with the current social media landscape across platforms
  • Make sure all site copy and headlines meet our editorial standards and style guide
  • Make sure all content is SEO friendly
  • Conduct keyword research to track performance as well as identify new content opportunities
  • Identify and track relevant community KPIs, and draw insights from data
  • Liaise with the Secret LA team and regional Managing Editor to share weekly feedback and best practices, and provide strategic input from LA
  • Work with other colleagues, teams and departments to create strategic content opportunities
  • Track openings and develop sources including PR reps, restaurateurs, local venues and event spaces, and alternate sources for coverage as needed
  • Assist in promotional efforts and collaborations in LA when necessary

Who You Are:
  • You have 5+ years experience working for a newsroom, content agency, creative agency, or digital media property, with experience using Wordpress & Canva or similar tools.
  • You have a deep passion for journalism, social media, and digital marketing, and are willing to learn video content creation for social media.
  • You can demonstrate your ability to adapt to the ever-changing and fast-moving world of a digital startup business, with a strong understanding of digital media trends and a good feel for what makes content popular online. You regularly stay up-to-date with digital technology trends and emerging patterns in media.
  • You have a strong attention to detail, are a critical-thinker and a problem-solver.
  • You're a leader who's comfortable managing a team, and supporting them to help achieve their goals.
  • Photo sourcing skills are a plus.
