DescriptionThe Echocardiography Technologist performs high-quality diagnostic echocardiographic examinations in an independent outpatient cardiology practice. The Echo Tech performs transthoracic echocardiograms and other authorized cardiac ultrasound procedures, obtains technically accurate images and measurements, prepares studies for physician interpretation, and maintains compliance with applicable professional, accreditation, safety, and practice standards.
The Echo Tech works closely with cardiologists, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to provide efficient, patient-centered cardiovascular diagnostic services. The successful candidate should demonstrate strong technical skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in a high-volume outpatient cardiology environment.
Echocardiography Technologist Job Responsibilities Include:
- Perform high-quality adult transthoracic echocardiograms following established protocols and standards.
- Obtain accurate cardiac images, Doppler studies, measurements, and documentation.
- Provide compassionate, professional patient care while ensuring comfort, privacy, and safety.
- Recognize and promptly communicate significant or urgent findings to the cardiologist.
- Assist with stress and contrast echocardiography as trained and credentialed.
- Ensure images and reports are complete, accurate, and properly uploaded to the PACS/echo system.
- Maintain ultrasound equipment, supplies, and a clean, organized testing environment.
- Follow HIPAA, infection-control, safety, and laboratory policies.
- Participate in quality improvement, accreditation activities, and continuing education.
- Work collaboratively with cardiologists, clinical staff, patients, and the practice team.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements- Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Sonography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or related program.
- Current ARDMS (RDCS), CCI (RCS), or equivalent nationally recognized credential, as applicable to the position.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Demonstrated competency in adult transthoracic echocardiography.
- Ability to independently perform high-quality diagnostic echocardiographic studies.
- Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, Doppler principles, and echocardiographic techniques.
- Excellent communication and patient-care skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cardiologists and the healthcare team.
Preferred Qualifications- 2+ years of experience performing adult echocardiography.
- Experience in an outpatient cardiology practice.
- Experience performing stress and contrast echocardiography.
- Familiarity with echocardiography PACS and reporting systems.
- Experience working in an accredited echocardiography laboratory.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and laboratory accreditation requirements.
