Position DescriptionThe Earthwork Superintendent is responsible for leading earthwork operations on heavy civil construction projects, including mass grading, excavation, embankment, subgrade preparation, and material placement. This role ensures earthwork activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.
Working in coordination with the Director of Operations, Project Managers, Project Superintendent and field leadership, the Earthwork Superintendent coordinates labor, heavy equipment, trucking, and material production while monitoring quantities, yields, and production rates. This position is critical to early project success, maintaining production efficiency, and preparing sites for subsequent construction phases.
Position Requirements- High School Degree
- Preferred: Post-Secondary Degree (Trade or Bachelor's)
- Minimum 7+ years of heavy civil construction experience focused on earthwork and mass grading.
- Strong knowledge of excavation, embankment, subgrade preparation, stabilization, and material placement.
- Experience managing large equipment fleets including scrapers, dozers, graders, and haul trucks.
- Understanding of soil types, compaction requirements, and moisture conditioning.
- Proven ability to manage large crews, trucking logistics, and production-driven operations.
- Experience tracking quantities, haul efficiency, and equipment productivity.
- Strong coordination skills with survey teams and project leadership.
- OSHA safety knowledge with emphasis on heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to manage grading tolerances and coordinate with subsequent trades.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to work in high-production field environments.
