What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking an early career, enthusiastic R&D Data Science team member with a Computer Science, Software Engineering, or STEM background with programming experience to join the nuclear deterrence (ND) Data Analytics Team. In this role, you would deliver tools that enable verification, plotting and qualification outputs for the current and emerging programs to meet the national interests.
As a Data Analyst, you will be called to maintain and implement a complete toolset that:
- Verifies requirements
- Finds trends
- Answers questions about system performance
You will be part of a fast-paced and tightly integrated team who utilizes agile software engineering processes incorporating GitLab.
As part of this diverse multidisciplinary team, you may use your skills including:
- Software engineering
- Qualification engineering
- Modeling and simulation
- Data analytics and visualization
- Data science
On a given day, you may be called to work closely with one of our senior analysts to:
- Learn how to tackle Gitlab issues that may require some software development to help maintain the existing code base
- Run, maintain, or work with a senior analyst to improve existing MATLAB code per request
- Be familiar with or have a desire to learn AGILE methodologies using GitLab
- Work closely with our team as we collaborate with engineers on emerging systems and functional electrical testing teams
- Resolve technical and programmatic challenges in a collaborative manner
Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range$102,400 - $199,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance
Qualifications We DesireThe ideal R&D Data Science candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in a relevant computationally-intensive discipline where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Experience in developing software for enterprise and national security applications.
- Experience acquiring, preparing, and analyzing real world data.
- Demonstrated software development skills and familiarity with modern software development practices.
- Proven ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Experience with MATLAB and a desire to learn how to develop/maintain MATLAB code
- Basic familiarity with Object-Oriented programming
- Some knowledge of working with SCRUM
- Understanding of qualification testing
- Experience with Simulink
- Experience with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE)
- Experience with Git, or other Configuration Management tools
- Experience in Python and working with libraries like Matplotlib and Pandas
- Current Active Q-Clearance or equivalent
About Our TeamThe Data Analytics and Information Technology organization supports the Nuclear Deterrence Modernization Programs. The Data Analytics Team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and coordinating tool development to ensure accurate data analysis is completed on qualification and certification test data for the W80-4, W87-1, and emerging Nuclear Weapon Programs, using highly coordinated Scrum/Sprint approach to execute tool development and resolve issues in a prioritized manner. The Information Technology team coordinates, deploys, supports and assists the Nuclear Deterrence Modernization Programs with the necessary information technology hardware, spanning from computing resources used in the office to items used in field testing.
