Unit Description

The Financial Stability and Integrity unit (WKPFR) within the World Bank's Finance, Competitiveness and Investment (FCI) Global Practice supports central banks, financial regulators, and supervisory authorities in strengthening the stability, integrity, and sustainability of financial systems. The unit provides technical assistance on climate-related financial risk assessment, supervision and disclosure, in close collaboration with international standard-setting bodies including the NGFS, FSB, and G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group.

Duties and Accountabilities

The Extended Term Consultant will provide specialized technical assistance to client countries on the regulation and supervision of climate-related financial risks and green finance. Specific duties and accountabilities include:
• Provide technical advisory support to central banks and financial sector regulators on climate-related financial risk management, including risk identification, assessment, and supervisory frameworks.
• Support the drafting of climate supervisory guidelines, disclosure regulatory frameworks, and transition plan guidance tailored to client country contexts.
• Contribute to country climate risk diagnostics and nature-related financial risk assessments.
• Assist in the design and delivery of capacity building programs and training for financial sector supervisors.
• Support the engagement of the World Bank with the Network of central banks and supervisors for greening the financial system (NGFS), and monitor and synthesize emerging international standards and best practices (FSB, Basel Committee, IOSCO) and incorporate them into advisory work.
• Prepare technical reports, policy notes, and other knowledge products.

Selection Criteria
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, economics, environmental policy, or a related field, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience in climate-related financial risk regulation and supervision, green finance, or related financial sector policy areas.
• Familiarity with international standard-setting frameworks (NGFS, FSB, Basel Committee, TCFD/ISSB) and their application to financial sector regulation.
• Strong analytical and writing skills; ability to produce high-quality technical documents.
• Experience working in or with international organizations (multilateral development banks, standard-setting bodies, or equivalent) is an advantage.
• Fluency in English required
