Job DescriptionThe Opportunity:Reporting to the Geotechnical Operations Support team, the Dyke Construction Monitoring Technologist will perform safe, compliant, and effective construction monitoring of various mine earth structures including external tailings dykes, in-pit tailings dykes, and waste dumps.
- Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Horizon Oil Sands
- Shift schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off (alternating day/night shifts) - 12-hour shift
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities:- Carry out and document construction quality control and assurance in accordance with the ITM, QMP, and construction drawings and specifications
- Inspect the material borrow source during each shift to confirm that the material meets the design specification
- Confirm planned placement areas are consistent with design zonation boundaries, as per construction drawings and specifications
- Document relevant construction related conversations or communications to ensure construction deviations and decisions are accurately documented and communicated to Supervisor, Geotechnical and Lead Engineer, Geotechnical Operations Support
- Document key construction activities and communicate them with cross-shift
What You Bring to the Role:- A technical diploma in a field related to mining (Civil Technologist, Geological Technologist, Geomatics Technologist, or a Mining Technologist) and eligible to receive accreditation with ASET as a C.E.T. or C.Tech.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the construction quality control of earthwork for dyke construction (preferably in the oil sand companies)
- Must possess a valid class 5 Drivers' License with limited to no demerits
- Must be able to carry 50 lbs. 100 m over rough terrain continuously
