We are currently recruiting for 1 Document Services Unit Manager position located at Headquarters, Los Angeles, California.

 

This recruitment may also be used to build an eligibility list for the following location at Headquarters - Los Angeles.

 In this role, you will serve as the Document Services Unit Manager, leading both the day-to-day execution and the strategic oversight of operations that ensure the high-quality delivery, lifecycle management, and technological integration of all media and document resources across MWD. You will oversee all aspects of Metropolitan’s document services ecosystem, including graphic design, publishing, and production; reprographics; networked graphic systems; electronic forms development; library services; and records management. This role requires a hands-on leader who actively manages unit workflows, steers complex communication design assets, guarantees regulatory and legal records compliance, and champions the modernization of corporate digital asset platforms. You will supervise and develop a skilled team, setting high performance expectations, coaching staff on technical and compliance matters, and establishing clear goals and accountability to ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables. A successful candidate will be a driver of continuous improvement, strengthening creative processes, leveraging collaborative production systems, and improving the transparency and accessibility of information and resources for leadership and stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to apply your expertise in a collaborative, mission-driven environment while contributing to the organization’s communication strength and operational excellence.  What You’ll Do
  • Supervises and develops document services staff ensuring policies and procedures are implemented to maintain operational and data integrity across publishing, digital asset management, and library repositories.
  • Supervises the daily reprographics, production, and publishing activities to ensure that all internal MWD Groups, Member Agencies, and external stakeholders receive accurate, compliant, and timely physical and electronic materials.
  • Oversees the daily graphic design workflows to ensure that all branding, public outreach, and internal messaging align with Metropolitan's communication standards.
  • Reviews records management aging and retention schedules to ensure compliance with legal mandates and MWD policies; oversees the preservation of archival and library resources.
  • Maintains routine communication and works with other MWD Groups/Sections/Units/Teams to handle production requests, electronic forms development, and cross-functional media coordination.
  • Manages the optimization and administration of networked graphic systems, enterprise publishing applications, and web-based request interfaces.
  • Oversees proper setup, allocation, and tracking for billable and reimbursable internal design, print, and video production projects.
  • Manages the annual document infrastructure review, evaluating software systems, high-volume production equipment leases, and vendor agreements.
  • Plans and directs document services related system upgrades; facilitates future testing, integration, and use of applications toward automation of electronic forms and digital assets.

Schedule: 44/36, Monday through Friday / Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday.

 

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: An associate's degree from an accredited college or university and fourteen years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which four years must have been in a management, or supervisory position; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and twelve years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which four years must have been in a management or supervisory position; or an advanced degree from an accredited college or university and ten years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which four years must have been in a management or supervisory position.  Relevant Experience is defined as: Experience managing document control, technical writing, or administrative teams while overseeing records management and compliance protocols. Desirable Qualifications:Experience participating in internal or external compliance audits.Experience applying technical standards to reprographics and printing operations.Experience managing full-lifecycle archiving and document destruction schedules.
