DO Project Manager - Detroit, Michigan The Select Group's Energy & Utilities practice is seeking a DO Project Manager to support delivery of Detroit's Distribution Operations PMO engagement. This is a client-facing, delivery-focused role responsible for standing up and running the day-to-day operations of the program management office. This is similar to a program manager role however the program is our project management/project controls team. This person will oversee a team of 20-30 people and help with onboarding, reporting, and execution of the program.
The ideal candidate combines solid program/project management fundamentals with a strong aptitude for data, reporting, and modern tools - someone who is as comfortable facilitating a stakeholder meeting as they are building a clean, accurate status report. Someone that is very knowledge in either utilities, infrastructure of similar field in project management and can help support a skilled team in execution.
Key Responsibilities PMO Operations & Delivery
- Support day-to-day execution of the Distribution Operations PMO, ensuring project management processes, tools, and cadences are consistently applied across the program.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for onboarding new team members and contractors - leading onboarding sessions, walking new hires through PMO tools, processes, and client expectations, and ensuring a smooth ramp-up.
- Coordinate program administration tasks, including scheduling, documentation management, meeting logistics, and maintenance of PMO artifacts and repositories.
Data, Reporting & Analysis
- Own the collection, validation, and analysis of project data across the program, including schedule, cost, resource, and risk information.
- Track and report on project health status, KPIs, and SLAs, identifying trends, risks, and areas requiring escalation.
- Use AI-enabled tools and modern reporting/analytics platforms to streamline data collection, improve accuracy, and accelerate turnaround on status reporting.
- Build and maintain clear, executive-ready reporting deliverables (dashboards, status decks, scorecards) for program leadership and client stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner closely with client and TSG program leadership to ensure reporting and communication needs are met accurately and on schedule.
- Support governance meetings, status reviews, and steering committee sessions with accurate, well-prepared materials.
Qualifications - 5-10 years of program/project management experience within utilities, energy, infrastructure, or a related capital-intensive industry.
- Strong data and reporting skills - comfortable working in Excel/Power BI or similar tools to collect, structure, and analyze project data.
- Interest in applying AI tools to improve reporting efficiency and project health analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate data into clear, executive-level narratives.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams and administrative responsibilities simultaneously.
- Ability to work onsite in Detroit, MI, 3 days per week.
- PMP or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months.
Preferred - Leadership experience within a project management organization
- Familiarity with project controls tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Maximo) a plus.
