Jefferson Health is seeking an accomplished physician leader to serve as Division Chief of Hospital Medicine. Reporting to the Chair of Medicine and working collaboratively with hospital leadership, the Division Chief will provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a growing team of Hospital Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers across the Jefferson Health system.
The Division Chief will champion excellence in patient care, quality, safety, physician engagement, education, and operational performance while advancing Jefferson Health's mission of improving lives through compassionate clinical care, innovation, education, and research.
Job Description
Clinical Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for all Hospital Medicine programs within the division.
- Maintain an active clinical practice as a Hospitalist.
- Develop and implement evidence-based clinical standards and best practices.
- Foster a culture of patient-centered, high-quality care and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and care transitions.
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Division of Hospital Medicine.
- Partner with hospital administration, nursing leadership, and physician leaders to achieve organizational goals.
- Monitor and improve key performance indicators, including:
- Length of stay
- Readmission rates
- Throughput and patient flow
- Quality and safety metrics
- Patient experience measures
- Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and program development.
- Lead physician workforce planning, scheduling strategies, and staffing optimization.
Physician and APP Leadership
- Recruit, retain, mentor, and develop Hospital Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development initiatives.
- Foster physician engagement, collaboration, and wellness.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and inclusion.
Academic and Educational Leadership
- Support the educational mission of Jefferson Health and Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
- Participate in resident and medical student education.
- Encourage scholarly activity, quality improvement projects, and research initiatives.
- Mentor faculty in academic advancement and leadership development.
Quality and Patient Safety
- Lead quality improvement initiatives across the Hospital Medicine service.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Partner with quality, safety, and population health leaders to improve outcomes.
- Utilize data analytics to drive performance improvement and operational excellence.
Financial Stewardship
- Collaborate with operational and financial leaders to ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Assist in budget planning and resource allocation.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while maintaining exceptional patient care.
Qualifications
Required
- MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey.
- Minimum of five years of Hospital Medicine experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in Hospital Medicine, academic medicine, or healthcare operations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
Preferred
- Academic leadership experience.
- Experience leading large, multi-site Hospital Medicine programs.
- Track record of quality improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
- Faculty appointment and scholarly activity within an academic health system.
- MBA, MHA, MPH, or equivalent leadership training preferred.
