Position InformationAs District Design Engineer, you'll lead a team of skilled professionals responsible for developing innovative, high-quality construction plans for transportation projects across the district. You will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards-helping improve mobility for thousands of Texans every day.
Position DescriptionSupervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:- Coordinates with area engineers on design and plan preparation.
- Develops and monitors budget.
- Directs the design and/or implementation of pollution prevention plans on construction projects or develops and implements storm water pollution prevention plans for construction projects.
- Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scope of work, negotiates contract work schedules, and negotiates other contract agreements. - Prepares and submits Plans, Specifications and Estimates (P.S. & E) on projects.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 4 years' experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
