As District Building Engineer, you'll play a vital leadership role in maintaining YMCA facilities, directing engineering operations, managing maintenance teams, and ensuring our buildings remain safe, efficient, and ready to serve thousands of members every day.
The salary for this position starts at $70,000 - $93,000. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
1. Job Summary:The District Building Engineer is responsible for engineering services for assigned buildings and facilities. The incumbent manages the district's budget, oversees the maintenance of property, building equipment and security. The incumbent ensures compliance with established policies and procedures working closely with branch leadership.
2. Essential Functions:- Directs and manages engineering services at assigned building and facilities within established policies and procedures.
- Established and manages district engineering budget and assists in the preparation of the Y engineering budget and needs.
- Plans for short- and long-range building engineering needs, execution of maintenance needs, building safety programs, etc. specific to each location.
- Implements preventive maintenance programs, evaluate requests for facility system repairs and assigns team members accordingly.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises Maintenance Technicians directly and other engineering team members where needed.
- Carry a cellular phone for communication and for urgent/emergency situations.
- Respond to urgent/emergency situations (fire, evacuation, power failure, pool closure, etc.) at all district sites on short notice.
- Plan and provide security and safety oversight of the facilities and grounds. Have general knowledge of applicable code. Communicate requirements set by governing agencies and code (OSHA, state and local code, YMCA policy, etc.) to YMCA employees from other departments.
- Attend/complete all job specific required training.
3. Relationships:This position reports to the Vice President of Facility Services who reports to the Executive Vice President. The incumbent supervises the Maintenance Technicians. The incumbent interacts regularly with branch leadership, members, staff, building contractors and maintain positive relationships.
4. Qualifications:Required
Associate degree in related field or two (2) years of related technical course work.Minimum of five (5) years of experience in facility operations and/or maintenance. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience. Experience with preventive maintenance development and implementation practices, including using PM/Work Request Software.Working knowledge and skills in heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, water chemistry, pool operations, energy management systems, and carpentry.Ability to troubleshoot facility issues proficiently.Knowledge of applicable regulations and safety codes.Ability to read and interpret schematics, wire diagrams and architect drawings.Proven oral and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal communication skills.Proven project management knowledge and skills.Computer knowledge in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel & other Engineering/Operation related programs.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Current 2nd Class C license.Current Certified Pool Operator's License (or equivalent) from the National Swimming Pool Foundation or ability to obtain one within 6 months of full time employment.
6. Work Conditions:Ability to move up to 50 pound quantities of material.Ability to erect and stand on scaffolding, ladders, lifts, platforms.Ability to work at various heights for extended periods.Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.Paint and clean equipment as needed.Work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.Perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may include, but not limited to the following activities: semi - reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, shoveling, working in narrow and/or confining spaces underground, overhead, and at ground level, twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs, and lying on stomach and/or back.Operate a variety of equipment and utilize hand and power tools.Must be able to respond to emergency/on-call situations.Ability to perform tasks outdoor in different climate. Ability to regularly and frequently drive to branches and retain locations with little to no notice.Ability to work on a computer.
