Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

  • This position maintains modeling accuracy and operating reliability of various Distribution Operating Technologies, including Network Management System (NMS) and Distribution GIS. NMS serves as the "official switching map of record", as required by federal regulations, as well as the platform in which customer outages are initially reported (Outage Management System or OMS). The Distribution GIS database serves as the asset repository for all power delivery infrastructure within the Georgia Power footprint and drives the creation of the network model. Georgia Power currently utilizes an Oracle-based NMS and ESRI ArcGIS technology.
  • This position is responsible for applying revisions to the network via patches to the model build environment before moving it to the production environment. Revisions may include addition of new power delivery infrastructure, changes to existing infrastructure, or equipment retirement. Responsibilities also include validating these revisions for electrical connectivity, device behavior, switching accuracy, outage propagation, and overall network model integrity through established quality assurance processes.
  • This position requires frequent collaboration with other Georgia Power and Southern Company partners, chiefly the GIS team, Distribution Control Center (DCC) operators, Distribution Support Specialists, and field personnel.
  • There is an ongoing initiative to strengthen internal QA/QC processes through automation and data analytics. The use of SQL, Python, and Power BI enables the identification, quantification, tracking, and reporting of data quality issues, supporting continuous improvement across NMS modeling activities.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exemplary customer value to internal and external customers.
  • This position supports a 24/7 organization and may require some work outside of normal business hours. Also, there are opportunities to work overtime to assist in storm restoration activities.
