Summary

The Distribution Materials Specialist determines and prioritizes which jobs will be kitted or filled internally or externally. Has direct interaction with suppliers and vendors to determine needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels. Ensures environmental and governmental records are completed timely and filed according to regulations. Has direct interaction with engineering, construction, and suppliers to determine needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels. Determine what work will be performed by contractors. Work with logistics team to ensure material is delivered safely, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Logistics Planning
  • Develop and optimize transportation plans for movement of materials between suppliers, warehouses, storerooms, and job sites.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments to meet delivery requirements.
  • Build and consolidate truckloads to maximize trailer utilization and lower transportation costs.
  • Monitor freight movement and resolve shipment exceptions.
  • Coordinate with carriers, brokers, and fleet operations to ensure transportation capacity.
  • Adjust transportation schedules based on operational priorities.
  • Monitor carrier performance, delivery metrics, and service levels.
  • Coordinate emergency, storm restoration, and expedited material deliveries.
  • Support transportation cost analysis, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements

Education and Experience

Education:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Applicants with an Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Science (AS), Bachelor of Arts (BA)/Bachelor of Science (BS) in Supply Chain or Logistics are encouraged to apply.

Experience:
  • Five years-experience in stores and a minimum two years of Supply Chain experience is required.
  • Experience and understanding of Warehouse Management applications.
  • Experience resolving transportation issues in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Experience dispatching dedicated fleet and third-party carriers.
  • Experience coordinating transportation operations for multiple distribution centers, storerooms, or field locations.
  • Experience utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) annd Work Management Systems (WMS).

Measures of Success
  • Safely completes all work assignments in accordance with company standards, within accepted safe working practices, and procedures, and acceptable budget and timeframe.
  • Reduces transportation costs through efficient load planning and carrier selection.
  • Maximizes trailer utilization while minimizing empty trailer space.
  • Consistently identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Maintains accurate transportation documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Accurately completes, files and maintains required governmental, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) and environmental data.
  • Properly maintains inventory controls and budgetary constraints as shown by FIM.
  • Effectively works with members of management and other groups to achieve acceptable goals and levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Appropriately represents the company in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrates awareness of conditions that affect employee and or public safety.
  • Attendance and participation in key business objectives, including monthly/yearly inventory counts and storm site support.
