Overview

We are designing the grid of the future! 

EPE is seeking an experienced Distribution Designer or Design Engineer to support ongoing projects for Utilities. The role is remote and open to candidates nationwide, though preference is given to those living in or near Allentown Pennsylvania. The ideal candidate has strong experience with utility standards and workflows, including the use of PoleForeman, Autodesk Utility Design (AUD), INFOR EFD, and ArcFM.This individual will be responsible for preparing detailed design packages for overhead and underground electric distribution systems, collaborating with remote team members, and interfacing with utility contacts as needed.

Responsibilities

  • System Design and Engineering

    • Develop electric distribution design packages (OH/UG) per Electric Utilities99 standards and specifications.

    • Use PoleForeman for pole loading calculations and structural analysis.

    • Produce designs using Autodesk Utility Design (AUD) and ArcFM, incorporating GIS data and field notes.

    • Navigate INFOR EFD for work management and tracking.

    • Apply NESC, NEC, and utility criteria for clearance, conductor selection, and construction unit application.

  • Project Support & Documentation

    • Create material lists, construction notes, and supporting documentation for work order packages.

    • Coordinate with cross-functional utility teams (e.g., forestry, operations, construction).

    • Review and QA/QC design deliverables to ensure accuracy and constructability.

    • Provide cost estimates and design metrics as required.

  • Field & Client Interface

    • Participate in occasional field investigations to validate existing conditions and gather design inputs.

    • Communicate with client representatives, municipalities, and stakeholders in a professional, responsive manner.

    • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and proper use of PPE during site visits.

Qualifications
