OverviewThe Dispatch Supervisorplays a critical leadership role within the Protective Services team, overseeing daily dispatch operations that support emergency response, public safety, security, and mission continuity. This positionis responsible forguiding dispatch personnel, ensuring operational readiness,maintaininghigh service standards, and providing leadership in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
The ideal candidate is an experienced public safety communications professional who can effectively lead a team, make sound decisions under pressure, and ensure seamless coordination between dispatchers, security personnel, law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical personnel, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise dispatch personnel to ensure consistent, professional, and effective communications support.
- Provide day-to-day operational oversight of dispatch activities and shift performance.
- Conduct training, onboarding, coaching, and development for new and existing dispatch personnel.
- Monitor employee performance and provide regular feedback, corrective guidance, and professional development recommendations.
- Assistwith performance evaluations and personnel documentation.
- Promote a culture of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee daily communications center operations to ensuretimelyandaccurateresponse to emergency and non-emergency incidents.
- Monitor workload, staffing levels, and operational performance to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Support dispatch personnel during high-volume incidents, critical events, and emergency situations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, communication protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement solutions tomaintainuninterrupted dispatch services.
- Coordinate communication between security personnel, law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical responders, and outside agencies.
- Assistwith emergency response coordination during incidents,special events, severe weather, and other critical situations.
- Support incident command activities throughaccuratedocumentation,communicationscoordination, and resource tracking.
- Serve as a resource and escalation point for complex incidents requiring supervisory involvement.
- Review dispatch records, reports, activity logs, and communications documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Identifyoperational trends, training needs, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Recommend updates to policies, procedures, and communications protocols to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Ensure dispatch personnelmaintainrequired certifications, training, and professional qualifications.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GEDrequired.
- Prior supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience in a dispatch, communications, public safety, security, law enforcement, or emergency response environment.
- Completion of:
- ICS-100 (Introduction to the Incident Command System)
- ICS-200 (Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response)
- NIMS/IS-700 (National Incident Management System)
- Completion of a POST Basic Dispatch Academy.
- Current First Aid/CPR or BLS certification.
- California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) certification.
- Ability to meet andmaintainapplicable NFPA 1061 and NFPA 1221 requirements.
- Ability to obtain andmaintaina DoD security clearance.
- Successfully pass background and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) or more years of dispatch, emergency communications, public safety, law enforcement, fire service, or security operations experience.
- Previousexperience supervising or leading a dispatch center or communications team.
- Experience operating Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio communications, alarm monitoring, CCTV, or emergency communications systems.
- Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public Safety, Communications, ora relatedfield.
