Under general direction of the Executive Director of Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers (AATC), provide divisional and campus-wide leadership and oversight for the Tutoring Services unit in the department. The Director is responsible for developing and maintaining multiple quality academic support programs that impacts the academic experience for undergraduate students. This position manages and directs work for 400 undergraduate Union tutors. The Director is responsible for developing tutor pedagogy curriculum and training academic specialists to teach tutor pedagogy unit-bearing classes each quarter. Working collaboratively with campus partners, develop tutoring programs and services to support student academic needs and to coordinate, improve and assess tutoring services offered in a variety of platforms. The Director is responsible for creating and promoting a culture of academic support across the colleges, working with key stakeholders to maintain standards of practice to manage a centralized tutoring service.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position - Bachelors degree in education, STEM, humanities, or related field or equivalent experience/training.
- 5 years of professional experience in academic support services, learning assistance, tutoring programs, or related student academic success work and at least 2 years of experience supervising staff, including student employees and/or professional staff.
- Experience with program coordination, student service delivery, and managing day-to-day operations in a fast-paced, student-facing environment
- Knowledge of an academic subject to provide tutoring and teaching demonstrations and to develop tutor pedagogy curricula and advanced knowledge of best practices in tutoring, peer-led learning, and/or academic support services.
- Familiarity with types of assessment and evaluation methods to determine program effectiveness in a learning support program..
- Interpersonal skills to communicate and establish effective working relationships with individuals of varying skill levels, cultural backgrounds and perspectives, which includes the interpersonal skills to work effectively and collegially with other staff and with supervisors.
Preferred Qualifications - Masters degree in education, STEM, humanities, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in academic support, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Assistant Director, Associate Director, or Program Manager)
- Experience overseeing large-scale student employment programs, including the recruitment, training, and professional development of peer educators
- Knowledge of NCAA rule and regulations that govern academic support to student-athletes.
- Ability to design and deliver tutor pedagogy courses or professional development workshops.
- Deep understanding of pedagogy and learning theories relevant to peer academic support.
- Working knowledge of CRLA certification requirements and tutor training curricula.
- Strategic planning and budget management skills.
- Demonstrate ability to use data and reporting tools for program assessment, impact reporting, and/or budget justification.
- Leadership in delivering or facilitating tutor pedagogy courses, with direct connection to CRLA certification or equivalent professional standards

Department Overview The Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers is a large centralized academic support unit in Student Affairs. We provide an inclusive and interactive learning environment where students participate in reinforcing and retaining knowledge in multi-disciplinary writing, math, and science subjects through co-curricular academic services including classes, workshops, office hours, content reviews, drop-in tutoring, a writing studio, and writing appointments. AATC consists of 20 professional staff and 400 undergraduate BX tutors and readers and student assistants. The Math Diagnostic Testing Project is a program in AATC that supports math testing in K-12 California schools.
