Purpose of Position:Del Monte Foods is the Foods Division of Fresh Del Monte, a global grower, producer and marketer of fresh, value-added, and shelf-stable produce. Del Monte Foods has a powerful portfolio of brands, including the iconic Del Monte®, Contadina® and S&W®. We are currently seeking a Director of Transportation & Supply Chain Engineering.
The Director of Transportation & Supply Chain Engineering is responsible for setting strategic direction for the entire Transportation function and will be a key leader on the Supply Chain Leadership Team. The Director will provide strategic leadership for transportation operations, carrier management, procurement, and supply chain optimization. This position is responsible for transportation strategy, budget management, carrier sourcing and governance, capacity planning, transportation analytics, and continuous improvement initiatives that deliver service excellence, cost savings, and operational efficiency across the supply chain.
Accountabilities:- Develop and execute enterprise transportation and carrier strategies that optimize cost, service, capacity, and network performance.
- Manage transportation spend and budget performance, ensuring attainment of the annual operating plan (AOP) goals through disciplined forecasting, cost control, and productivity initiatives.
- Lead transportation procurement activities, including annual carrier bid events, contract negotiations, carrier selection, lane awards, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
- Establish and govern carrier performance management programs, including scorecards, business reviews, service metrics, and accountability processes to drive continuous improvement.
- Direct transportation capacity planning in partnership with carriers, 3PL providers, distribution centers, and internal stakeholders to ensure reliable service during peak and seasonal demand periods.
- Serve as the executive escalation point for transportation capacity, pricing, service, and operational issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal business disruption.
- Identify, quantify, and implement transportation optimization opportunities, including dedicated fleet strategies, continuous move programs, mode optimization, routing efficiencies, and other cost-saving initiatives.
- Develop and advance transportation analytics, modeling, and reporting capabilities that support data-driven decision making, performance management, and strategic planning.
- Lead continuous improvement and process re-engineering initiatives across transportation and supply chain operations to eliminate waste, improve service, and drive productivity.
- Build, mentor, and develop high-performing transportation and supply chain teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Minimum Skills Required:- BA or BS Degree required, preferably in Logistics or Business or related experience.
- Minimum 10+ years of related experience required. Minimum 5+ years management experience.
- Expertise in transportation operations and pricing in each of the following areas:
- Truckload, LTL, rail, inter-modal, ocean.
- Transportation contracting and procurement experience for large scale network (>$100M, >100 carriers) required.
- Experience developing and implementing a carrier strategy and report card in a large, multi-site organization.
- Experience utilizing a continuous improvement methodology such as Lean or Six Sigma required.
- Project management experience required.
- Solid knowledge of Excel, Access and strong analytical skills required.
- Strong negotiation skills required.
- Strong presentation skills as well as strong oral and written communication skills required.
- Masters in business preferred.
- Experience managing an outsourced logistics provider strongly preferred.
- Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods preferred.
- Experience leading change in large organizations is a strong plus.
