About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Director of Total Rewards to lead the strategy, design, and execution of our compensation and benefits programs. This role is ideal for a leader who enjoys both setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to execute.

The Director of Total Rewards will oversee all aspects of compensation, benefits, and rewards programs, ensuring they are competitive, equitable, and aligned with business objectives. This individual will lead a small team while also partnering closely with senior leadership, finance, and HR business partners to drive data-driven rewards strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Total Rewards Strategy & Leadership
  • Lead the development and execution of the company's total rewards strategy, including compensation, benefits, recognition, and wellness programs.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of total rewards professionals, providing leadership, development, and prioritization.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on compensation strategy, market competitiveness, and rewards philosophy.

Compensation
  • Design, implement, and manage base salary, bonus, and incentive programs across corporate and field populations.
  • Lead annual compensation processes including merit, promotions, and bonus planning.
  • Conduct market benchmarking and compensation analysis using survey data and external market insights.
  • Partner with leadership on job architecture, leveling frameworks, and pay equity analysis.
  • Provide guidance on executive and leadership compensation structures when needed.

Benefits
  • Oversee the design, administration, and continuous improvement of health, wellness, retirement, and leave programs.
  • Manage vendor relationships including benefits brokers, carriers, and retirement providers.
  • Ensure benefits offerings remain competitive while balancing cost management and employee experience.
  • Lead annual benefits renewal and open enrollment processes.

Operations & Compliance
  • Ensure total rewards programs comply with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with HRIS, payroll, and finance teams to ensure accurate administration and reporting.
  • Analyze data and produce insights and reporting on compensation and benefits trends.

Stakeholder Partnership
  • Partner closely with HR Business Partners and business leaders to provide guidance on compensation decisions, offers, and organizational design.
  • Communicate total rewards programs clearly to employees and leaders to drive understanding and transparency.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive total rewards experience with deep expertise in compensation and benefits.
  • Experience leading or mentoring total rewards, compensation, or benefits teams.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing compensation frameworks, incentive plans, and benchmarking processes.
  • Strong knowledge of benefits program design, vendor management, and renewals.
  • Experience leading annual comp cycles and benefits open enrollment.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to translate data into clear business recommendations.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment, particularly within scaling or mid-sized organizations.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree required; CCP, CBP, or CEBS certifications are a plus.
