Full Job Description
The Director, Total Rewards is responsible for providing leadership in the implementation, ongoing maintenance and regulatory compliance of total rewards programs/systems.

Responsibilities
  • Directs Enviva's Total Rewards policies, objectives, and initiatives. Recommends improvements to Total Rewards strategies aligned with Enviva's People Strategy and organizational objectives. Effectively communicates programs and leads change management initiatives across the function. Supports the employee value proposition through competitive, equitable, and meaningful rewards programs designed to attract, engage, and retain employees.
  • Partner with HR Leadership, Finance, HR Business Partners and business leaders to align total rewards programs and practices with organizational priorities, workforce needs, retention, and operational objectives.
  • Lead the development and administration of compensation strategies and programs to ensure internal equity, market competitiveness, and regulatory compliance. Oversee compensation philosophy, salary structures, incentive programs, pay practices, job evaluations, salary benchmarking activities, and Company pay grades. Maintain job family and salary data while providing compensation recommendations and wage analyses for new hires, promotions, transfers, and other job changes in support of recruiting and workforce planning efforts. Lead, participate in, or oversee compensation studies and external market benchmarking activities, including engagement with compensation consultants as appropriate.
  • Lead the strategy, design, administration, and continuous improvement of employee benefits programs, including health, welfare, and retirement plans, to ensure competitiveness, cost effectiveness, compliance, and alignment with organizational and workforce needs. Oversee plan design, open enrollment, vendor partnerships, employee communications, regulatory filings/postings, and ongoing program administration while ensuring Total Rewards programs remain within budgetary constraints and support attraction and retention efforts.
  • Lead payroll operations and related processes to ensure employees are paid accurately, timely, and in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies while continuously improving efficiency, controls, and employee experience.
  • Demonstrate strong proficiency in HRIS platforms and HR technology, leveraging systems and technology-driven solutions to improve processes, reporting, efficiency, compliance, and user experience. Manage and maintain employee data throughout the employee lifecycle while establishing SOPs and controls that ensure data accuracy, confidentiality, and legal compliance. Leverage HRIS, compensation, payroll, benefits, and analytics tools to provide meaningful workforce insights, benchmarking, reporting, and decision support to HR Leadership and business leaders.
  • Create policies and initiatives to ensure compensation, benefits, and payroll programs comply with all legal requirements and organizational guidelines.
  • Monitors industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies while leading continuous improvement and modernization initiatives across total rewards, HR systems, and related processes.
  • Lead and participate in audits, as required.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor Compensation, Benefits and Payroll team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible work experience administering Compensation, Benefits, and Payroll, including 5+ years in a supervisory capacity. Relevant experience in a manufacturing organization is highly desirable. International experience is a plus.
  • In-depth understanding of the Human Resources functional processes, compliance requirements and business needs of a mid-sized globally dispersed organization. Familiarity with global pay and benefits practices and HR system requirements for UK and Japan a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams. Ability to achieve desired results while working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and communicate professionally and with integrity across all levels of the organization, including HR leadership, employees, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise. Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions including project management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills including data analysis, reporting, formulas, pivot tables, and spreadsheet management.
  • Proficient with HRIS/HCM platforms

Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach, employee first mindset, willingness to actively support day to-day operations, engage with team members, and travel to company sites as needed.
  • Experience with data analytics, HRIS platforms, and AI-driven tools
  • Experience supporting geographically dispersed workforces across manufacturing, industrial, operations, or multi-site environments strongly preferred.
  • International experience with UK and Japan preferred.

Travel requirements
  • Occasional travel, up to 25% monthly, to other office or field locations.

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid out of Raleigh, NC or Bethesda, MD

Physical Requirements
  • Corporate office setting with 95% desk work. Sit/stand desk will be provided.

The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, training, etc.

Salary Range

$180,000-$200,000 USD

This position is not eligible for visa support.
