Summary
The Total Rewards Director leads the design, implementation, and administration of the hospital's total rewards programs. Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Human Resources (VPCHR), this position develops competitive, compliant, and financially sustainable reward strategies that support the organization's people strategy. The Director partners with the senior leadership team, Finance, and HR to ensure total rewards programs align with the hospital's mission, market position, and regulatory requirements. Leads a team responsible for compensation market analysis, benefits administration, HRIS/total rewards systems, vendor management, leave administration, and wellness programming.
Qualifications
Required:- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits, with at least three (3) years in a leadership role; healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of compensation methodologies, market pricing, job evaluation systems, job architecture, and benefits plan design and administration.
- Working knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, ACA, ERISA, and COBRA.
- Strong analytical, project management, and vendor management skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable recommendations.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and people skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
Preferred:- Master's degree
- Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), SHRM-SCP, or SPHR certification.
- Experience designing or administering self-funded insurance plans preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with progressive benefit design and administration preferred.
- Experience with HRIS/total rewards platforms and compensation management software.
Essential Functions
- Leads development, implementation, and ongoing administration of the hospital's compensation programs, including base pay structures, incentive plans, and physician/provider compensation in coordination with Medical Staff and Finance leadership.
- Directs design and management of employee benefits programs (health, welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits), including plan design, vendor selection and management, renewal negotiations, and open enrollment.
- Conducts and oversees market pricing, salary surveys, and pay equity analyses to ensure programs remain externally competitive and internally equitable.
- Partners with the VP & Chief Human Resources and Finance to develop the annual total rewards budget and forecast and monitor ongoing program costs against budget.Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing compensation and benefits, including FLSA, ACA, ERISA, COBRA, and other relevant employment laws.
- Serves as a strategic advisor to the Senior Leadership Team and HR on total rewards strategy, job architecture, pay structures, and market trends affecting recruitment and retention.
- Oversees compensation and benefits functionality within the HRIS, ensuring data integrity, accurate reporting, and efficient administration.
- Oversees leave of absence administration, including FMLA, ADA accommodation-related leave, and other statutory and company-provided leave programs, ensuring compliance, consistent administration and coordination with payroll and benefits continuation.
- Develops and delivers leader and employee education on total rewards programs, policies, and offerings to promote understanding and engagement.
- Manage relationships with external consultants, brokers, and vendors to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service delivery.
- Supervises and develops total rewards team members, setting priorities and ensuring department goals align with organizational objectives.
- Oversee compensation and benefit audit processes and practices.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
