Job Description

ABM is seeking a highly experienced and certified Director of Technical Training and Development to develop, deliver, and evaluate comprehensive training programs for our electrical test technicians and field service teams. The ideal candidate is an expert in electrical power systems testing, maintenance, and commissioning, dedicated to ensuring our staff possess the highest level of technical competency and adhere to all safety and industry standards, including those set by the InterNational Electrical Testing Association.

This is a Hybrid Role (in-office Mon-Thu) in our Electrification Center located at 2715 Ronald Reagan Blvd, Cumming, GA 30041

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and Deliver Training: Design, develop, and conduct engaging technical training programs (both in-person and virtual) on electrical testing procedures, equipment operation, safety protocols (e.g., NFPA 70E, OSHA), and industry standards.


  • Curriculum Management: Create and update training materials, including manuals, presentations, e-learning modules, and hands-on lab exercises, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with the latest NETA standards.


  • Assess Training Needs: Collaborate with project managers, engineering teams, and department leads to identify skill gaps and assess ongoing training needs across the organization.


  • Mentorship and Guidance: Mentor and guide junior and assistant technicians (Level 1 and 2 NETA trainees), providing hands-on support and expert advice during field projects and in-house workshops.


  • Evaluate Effectiveness: Assess the effectiveness of training programs through practical skills tests, written exams, and performance metrics, revising content as needed to improve outcomes.


  • Technical Support: Serve as a subject matter expert and provide ongoing coaching and support to trainees and field personnel post-session.


  • Documentation and Reporting: Ensure all training activities, learner progress, and outcomes are tracked and reported accurately.


  • Stay Current: Maintain knowledge of evolving technology, equipment, and industry trends within electrical power systems and update training offerings accordingly.


Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Certification: Current NETA III or NETA IV certification is required.


  • Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on field experience in the testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage electrical power systems (switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective relays, etc.).


  • Technical Expertise: Proficient with a wide range of specialized electrical test equipment and software (e.g., insulation resistance testers, circuit breaker analyzers, relay test sets like Doble or Omicron and PowerDB).


  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear, non-technical language when necessary.


  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving complex electrical issues.


  • Safety Orientation: In-depth knowledge of safety protocols and standards, including OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E requirements.


  • Education: An Associate's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field; a Bachelor's degree is a plus.


  • Soft Skills: A people-oriented team player with strong organizational, project management, and attention to detail skills.


  • Travel: Ability to travel to various client sites or company locations as needed for onsite training sessions.
