Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is now seeking a Director, Technical Accounting to join our team at the Parsippany - 22 Sylvan Way location in Parsippany, New Jersey.
The RoleThe Director, Technical Accounting, will be responsible for providing ongoing technical accounting guidance for transactions impacting Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. This position will research and conclude on technical accounting matters and will document conclusions in formal accounting position papers, ensuring the proper treatment of transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Technical accounting responsibilities will include accounting for new business initiatives, accounting and due diligence support on potential acquisitions, post-acquisition accounting and integration support, ongoing impairment reviews of intangible assets and other significant balance sheet items and assisting with the implementation of new accounting pronouncements. The Director, Technical Accounting will also assist our External Reporting team in the preparation and review of documentation supporting our quarterly and annual SEC filings, press releases and earnings call scripts. Finally, the Director, Technical Accounting will participate in the monthly close process on an as needed basis, particularly on matters involving technical accounting considerations, including monthly balance sheet reviews, quarterly reporting packages, internal and external audit requests and review of recurring accounting memos.
What you'll do- Provide technical accounting guidance for complex and emerging accounting issues impacting Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (e.g., revenue recognition, business combinations, leases, stock-based compensation, impairments, debt / equity instruments). Specific responsibilities will include:
- Research and conclude on technical accounting matters and document conclusions in formal accounting position papers.
- Serve as a liaison with the external auditors to ensure they concur with our accounting positions.
- Annual / ongoing asset impairment reviews.
- Provide technical accounting guidance to the Finance teams in our international regions.
- Stay current with FASB, EITF and SEC initiatives, tracking proposed changes and new accounting standards and determining the financial impact to Wyndham Hotels & Resorts when such standards are issued.
- Accounting and due diligence support on all acquisitions / divestitures including documenting formal acquisition accounting memos, preparation of the opening balance sheet, partnering with external valuation specialists on valuation work, and post-acquisition accounting and integration support.
- Assist the External Reporting team in the quarterly external reporting process, including the preparation of documentation supporting our quarterly form 10-Qs and annual 10-K and review of SEC filings, press releases and earnings call scripts.
- Participate in the monthly close process on an as needed basis, particularly on matters involving technical accounting considerations, including monthly balance sheet reviews, quarterly reporting packages, internal and external audit requests and review of recurring accounting memos.
- Assist with ad hoc projects and internal initiatives.
You'll be successful if you have- Extensive experience with technical accounting research and preparation of accounting position papers with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to senior leadership and external auditors.
- Strong knowledge of practices and concepts associated with U.S. GAAP.
- SEC reporting experience.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to anticipate issues and aggressively drive initiatives to achieve results.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.

Required Qualifications/Experience- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- CPA license required.
- 10 plus years of progressive accounting experience, including technical accounting research and SEC reporting.
- Prior public accounting experience required, Big 4 preferred.
- Strong knowledge of practices and concepts associated with U.S. GAAP.
- SEC financial reporting experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, with previous experience using Oracle preferred.

Compensation & BenefitsFor U.S. based positions only, the expected pay range for this position is $170,000 - $210,000 annually.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts carefully considers a wide range of factors when determining compensation such as work location, background, experience, and performance. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
In addition to the base pay, this role is eligible to receive an incentive payment pursuant to the Annual Incentive Plan with a 20% annual target, subject to the terms of the Plan.
