Director of Tax, reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Tax Accounting, this role is responsible for key aspects of the tax accounting and reporting of the U.S. GAAP income tax provision and related disclosures. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in tax accounting, US federal and state taxation as well as experience in a corporate environment with a proactive approach to process improvement, technology implementation, and risk management. This role will work cross-functionally with internal finance, legal, and accounting teams to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient tax reporting. This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.
Primary Responsibilities
Tax Reporting for Financial Statements
- Manage aspects of the Company’s quarterly and annual income tax provision process (ASC 740) and financial statement disclosures
- Review tax account reconciliations such as income tax payable, deferred tax assets and liabilities, uncertain tax positions (FIN 48/ASC 740-10), and valuation allowance analyses
- Identify changes in the business, tax law and SEC reporting requirements and assess financial statement impact in compliance with US GAAP
- Support financial close processes related to income tax, including journal entries, flux analysis, and management reporting
- Lead staff in the management of the tax provision software, OneSource Tax Provision
- Maintain calendars and workflows for tax reporting activities and manage team assignments and deadlines, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of all deliverables
- Collaborate with external auditors and manage key aspects of the financial statement audit
- Manage Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) internal control requirements for areas of responsibility
- Contribute to ongoing tax operations transformation effort by identifying and implementing process improvements and automation opportunities and coordinating with the Income Tax Compliance group for seamless change
Leadership and Team Development
- Manage and mentor tax professionals, including direct reports, to maximize their performance and career growth
- Build relationships with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Accounting, Legal, and Treasury
- Streamline tax accounting processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls
- Implement best practices for tax reporting
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or advanced degree (e.g., MST) preferred
- Minimum 10+ years of tax experience in a Big 4 accounting firm or equivalent experience in a tax department of a large multi-national corporation
- High level of professional knowledge and expertise in tax accounting (ASC 740)
- High degree of accuracy and proven ability to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a track record of effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Proven track record of process improvement, including the use of tax technology to drive efficiencies.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
- Experience using tax provision software such as OneSource Tax Provision
