Job Description:

Reporting to the VP, Strategic Solutions and Partnerships, the Director will help advance Sun Life Asset Management's (SLAM) strategic growth agenda by developing and executing high-impact initiatives across our asset management, wealth and insurance businesses; including contributing to new product development and advising on future sources of external permanent capital including sidecars and reinsurance arrangements.

The Director will bring structured problem solving and strong execution discipline to complex opportunities, including cross-enterprise product development, partnership models, capital formation, sidecars, reinsurance arrangements, and other innovative solutions. This role is ideal for a proactive professional eager to drive growth, enable collaboration, and support complex deal execution across Sun Life's global asset management, wealth, and insurance businesses.

What will you do:

Strategic solutions

  • Deliver on SLAM's strategic direction and goals by executing on internal and external growth initiatives. Scope and assess opportunities and determine which to pursue in the context of SLAM strategy, financial impact, operational feasibility, risk tolerance, etc.


Implementation

  • Lead and drive the execution of strategic initiatives from concept through execution, translating priorities into clear workplans, coordinating cross-functional workstreams, resolving barriers, and ensuring delivery against agreed outcomes and timelines


Collaboration

  • Establish collaborative relationships with various stakeholders including investment teams, distribution, finance, legal, risk, and operations to translate execute against initiatives
  • Assist in the identification and execution of internal synergies across Sun Life's insurance, wealth and asset management operations to create a self-reinforcing growth flywheel
  • Advise on the design and launch of innovative business models and expansions that unlock new sources of capital and assets under management (AUM)
  • Support with financial modeling, deal due diligence, portfolio assessment, and deal triage
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and integration across Sun Life's businesses to drive innovative solutions


Competitive intelligence

  • Maintain an understanding of external developments and market trends through various sources (e.g., secondary research, competitor actions, industry developments, industry network)
  • Prepare and present materials for senior management and other key stakeholders with recommendations and progress updates
  • Contribute to a culture of ownership, innovation, and inclusivity

Education and Experience

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in strategy consulting or corporate development, gained either as an external advisor of in-house at a multinational organization
  • Industry experience in asset management and/or insurance
  • Finance-related professional designation would be an asset (CFA, CPA, or actuarial credentials)
  • Proven track record leading cross-functional projects in global or matrix organizations


The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
