Job DescriptionThe Role:The Director, Software Engineering takes end-to-end ownership for the development and quality of solutions and services that delight caregivers and add strategic value to PSJH.
This role evaluates requirements, estimates costs, and leads the design and implementation of solutions and services. The Director defines and enforces quality criteria, using measurements and insights to validate the caregiver experience and overall system effectiveness.
The Director manages and improves engineering processes, balancing risks, dependencies, and trade-offs, while integrating software solutions into broader enterprise ecosystems. This leader is accountable for ensuring that engineering solutions deliver measurable value, maintain high quality standards, and evolve iteratively to meet changing business and caregiver needs.
What You'll Do:Technical Strategy & Architecture Leadership- Own software solution architecture, technical strategy, software design, and engineering deliverables for supported portfolios
- Lead teams in designing technical solutions that deliver business value and align with PSJH objectives
- Ensure technical vision supports iterative delivery and long-term scalability across multiple releases
- Anticipate market and industry trends and advise business leaders on emerging solutions and technical capabilities
Solution Design & Engineering Execution- Guide creation of conceptual models and future solution direction incorporating technology, market, and business trends
- Lead planning and design of end-to-end solutions, including software, tools, cloud services, dependencies, and documentation
- Ensure solutions are scalable, performant, resilient, and aligned with defined KPIs
Quality, Testing & Engineering Excellence- Promote a culture of quality and ensure standards across engineering teams, including development, test, and program management
- Lead design for unit, integration, performance, and security testing aligned to quality KPIs
- Use data and insights to validate solution quality and caregiver experience
Data, Analytics & Insights- Demonstrate deep knowledge of required data, identifying missing or incomplete data sets
- Connect disparate or ambiguous data to support engineering and business decisions
- Communicate defects, impacts, and findings in a concise, actionable manner
Engineering Process & Continuous Improvement- Optimize and transform the engineering lifecycle to enable system-wide improvements
- Drive innovation in engineering practices, quality, and responsiveness to feedback and evolving priorities
- Manage risks, dependencies, and trade-offs across solutions and teams
Cross-Team Integration & Delivery- Prioritize work across teams and software solutions, adjusting to changing priorities
- Remove barriers to team agility and enable efficient pivoting without compromising solution quality
- Partner with service engineering teams to define tooling, integration points, and hand-off processes
Ownership, Accountability & Support- Maintain accountability for end-to-end solution quality, completeness, and user experience
- Engage directly with solutions to identify improvement opportunities
- Resolve issues across the lifecycle, including beyond direct ownership when needed
Leadership & People Development- Build and lead diverse, high-performing engineering teams aligned to business objectives
- Hire, develop, and manage technical talent and future engineering leaders
- Create an inclusive work environment that encourages engagement and innovation
- Align team efforts with business strategy and hold individuals accountable for results
Collaboration & Culture- Partner with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across the organization
- Leverage diverse perspectives to improve solutions and better serve caregivers
- Model and reinforce PSJH values and culture through leadership and actions
What You'll BringEducation & Credentials- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field; or equivalent experience
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (preferred)
Experience & Expertise- 10 or more years of related experience in software engineering and solution development
- 8 years leading technical teams in a complex and fast-paced environment
- Strong experience leveraging data and metrics to drive engineering decisions, processes, and priorities
- Experience working in a healthcare environment (preferred)
- Proven ability to influence across teams, divisions, and Information Services through technical expertise and leadership
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, customers, and executive leadership
- Expertise in software engineering best practices, with the ability to be hands-on while developing others
- Ability to drive consistent engineering methods and processes across the organization
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading and developing technical teams
- Ability to hire, mentor, and grow technical and management leaders
- Strong prioritization, organizational, and execution skills in complex environments
- Demonstrated ability to make effective trade-offs between quality, time, scope, and resources to maximize value

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.
Posted are the minimum and the maximum wage rates on the wage range for this position. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
