Job Description

Location: Carmel, Indiana
As MISO's Director/Senior Director of Security Operations & Intelligence, you will be responsible for helping to keep the lights on for 45 million people defending critical infrastructure. You'll serve as a thought leader for overall information security strategy and work with the team and business partners to design and integrate cybersecurity into business strategies. You'll also be responsible for cyber incident response and recovery, including drills and assurance activities, advising and consulting on the real-time and longer-term cyber risk environment. You'll define process, standards and procedures adhering to industry best practices and participate in industry groups creating and disseminating standards and best practices, and information about cyber risks.

Your responsibilities as the Director/Senior Director of Security Operations & Intelligence include:
  • Managing the complete intelligence lifecycle, in order to develop and inform activities that protect MISO's most critical infrastructure and information assets.
  • Assisting in the development and effectively communicating strategic vision and plans to meet MISO's long-term security needs and interests and developing strategies toward achievement of the vision.
  • Leading cyber incident response programs, overseeing and continuously evolving regular drills and relationships with key providers and governmental agencies integral to responding to a cyber event.
  • Developing and managing security policies, procedures, work level instructions, controls, recommendations and standards to provide security assurance.
  • Being a hands-on technologist: In depth knowledge of information security engineering principles relating to designing, building, monitoring, and maintaining a secure infrastructure using various technologies including networking products, VPN, access control, firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption, virtualization, application security methodologies, secure software development, continuous integration testing, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) controls.
  • Coach, mentor, train, and manage employee performance.

To be successful as MISO's Director/Senior Director of Security Operations & Intelligence, we're looking for the following skills/experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field (Masters Degree, Preferred)
  • Ten (10) years of experience in information security operations
  • At least five (5) years' experience in people leadership and management, required
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, train, mentor, and manage employee performance
  • Proven ability to work under stress in emergencies, with the flexibility to handle multiple high-pressure situations simultaneously
  • Leading cyber security teams on call 24x7x365

Some depth of technical experience with any of the following:
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and/or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • Security Architecture experience; Information Systems Security Architecture Professional (ISSAP) and/or Information System Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP)
  • Cloud security; Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
  • Cloud security experience across multiple platforms
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and information security management frameworks (e.g., IS027000, COBIT, NIST 800, etc.)
  • Security architecture/engineering experience
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments, especially critical infrastructure

Appropriate level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
