Role Overview

Vectra AI is seeking a Director of Security Engineering (Pre-Sales) for West / Central region , to lead and scale a high-performing team of Security Engineers supporting enterprise sales. This leader will play a critical role in driving revenue growth, building technical credibility with customers, and developing a world-class sales engineering organization.

The Director will be responsible for team leadership, strategic deal support, talent development, and cross-functional alignment across sales, product, marketing, and customer success.

This role is ideal for a player-coach leader who thrives in high-growth cybersecurity environments and is passionate about helping organizations defend against sophisticated threats.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team of high-performing Security Engineers (Sales Engineers).
  • Establish a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching through deal reviews, customer engagement feedback, and career development plans.
  • Build and scale onboarding and enablement programs for new SE hires.

Technical Sales Leadership
  • Partner with Regional Sales Leaders to drive technical strategy across key enterprise opportunities.
  • Ensure consistent execution of discovery, demonstrations, architecture discussions, and technical validation.
  • Provide executive-level technical engagement with CISOs, security architects, and IT leaders.
  • Support complex strategic deals and high-value customer engagements.

Revenue & Pipeline Impact
  • Own the technical win strategy for key opportunities and competitive situations.
  • Improve technical win rates through structured discovery, demo frameworks, and proof-of-value programs.
  • Help accelerate deal cycles through strong technical qualification and customer trust.

Scaling & Operational Excellence
  • Build scalable systems and processes across the SE organization including:
    • Technical qualification frameworks
    • POC / proof-of-value methodologies
    • Demo and solution architecture standards
    • Deal review and forecasting participation
  • Track and improve key metrics including:
    • Technical win rates
    • POC success rates
    • SE utilization
    • Ramp time for new hires

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Act as the voice of the field to Product Management and Engineering.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on technical messaging, competitive positioning, and thought leadership.
  • Partner with Customer Success and Support to ensure smooth transitions from pre-sales to post-sales.

Qualifications Required
  • 10+ years in cybersecurity or enterprise technology
  • 5+ years leading or managing Sales Engineering / Solutions Engineering teams
  • Strong expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Network Detection & Response (NDR)
    • Extended Detection & Response (XDR)
    • Identity threat detection
    • Cloud security
    • SIEM
    • SOC operations
  • Experience supporting enterprise cybersecurity sales cycles
  • Proven ability to hire, mentor, and scale high-performing SE teams
  • Strong executive presence with ability to engage CISOs and senior security leaders

Preferred
  • Experience working in high-growth cybersecurity startups or scale-ups
  • Background in security operations, incident response, or threat detection
  • Familiarity with modern security architectures including SASE, Zero Trust, and XDR ecosystems
  • Experience with MEDDPICC or similar enterprise sales methodologies

Our competitive total rewards package includes cash compensation within the range provided below Actual pay for this position may vary based on the hired candidate's location, experience and relevant incumbent pay position.

$209,900-$246,900 USD
