Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director of Safety to lead the development and execution of our global safety strategy across all RH locations. This leader will establish the standards, programs and practices that protect our Team Members, customers and business while ensuring compliance with applicable workplace safety, environmental and public health requirements.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise across complex, multi-site and international operations, exercises strong judgment and urgency, and translates risk into practical, scalable programs that strengthen how RH operates.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Global Safety Strategy & Leadership

  • Live and model Our Vision, Values and Beliefs every day.
  • Own and lead RH's global safety strategy, programs and operating standards across all locations and businesses.
  • Establish RH's enterprise safety roadmap, priorities and investment recommendations based on risk, business needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as RH's subject matter expert on workplace safety, including OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements, and partner with local experts and counsel to navigate international regulations.
  • Advise executive and business leaders on material safety risks, regulatory developments and emerging issues, providing clear recommendations and paths to action.
  • Establish and continuously improve global safety policies, procedures and controls that create consistent standards and support regulatory compliance.
  • Lead safety strategy and compliance readiness across international markets and new locations, including pre-opening risk assessments and programs adapted to local requirements and operating environments.
Safety Culture & Education
  • Build a proactive safety culture by embedding clear expectations, shared accountability and Team Member engagement into daily operations.
  • Establish scalable safety education and training tailored to operational risks, regulatory requirements and job-specific responsibilities.
  • Strengthen safety expertise, consistency and accountability among leaders and partners across the organization.
Risk, Compliance & Prevention
  • Lead enterprise risk assessments across operations, facilities, equipment and projects, translating findings into prioritized prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee safety audits, regulatory compliance, recordkeeping and reporting across all applicable jurisdictions.
  • Lead industrial hygiene programs, including exposure assessments, hazard evaluation, monitoring and controls for chemical, physical and biological hazards.
  • Lead RH's response to significant safety incidents, including timely escalation, executive communication, root-cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Establish enterprise safety metrics and reporting that provide leaders with visibility into risk, compliance, trends and program effectiveness.
  • Partner with the People Team, Legal and operational leaders on occupational injuries and claims, using insights to strengthen prevention and support effective resolution.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, including air quality, stormwater, hazardous materials, waste management, permitting and reporting obligations.
  • Serve as RH's primary Safety partner during regulatory inspections, external audits and agency interactions.
Operational, Construction & Food Safety
  • Partner across Galleries, Distribution, Home Delivery, Hospitality and other operational teams to identify business-specific risks and implement practical, scalable solutions.
  • Establish and enforce construction and job-site safety standards, partnering with project leaders, superintendents and contractors on hazard analyses, orientations, inspections and subcontractor compliance.
  • Own RH's enterprise food safety framework in partnership with the Hospitality Leadership Team, establishing standards and controls that protect Team Members and guests, ensure compliance with sanitation and public health requirements, and support consistent execution across RH Hospitality.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, or related risk management, including ownership of an enterprise safety function.
  • Experience leading safety across complex, multi-site and international operations, including new-market or location openings.
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements, with experience navigating international frameworks such as EU-OSHA, CCOHS and HSE.
  • Experience across retail, hospitality, manufacturing, distribution, construction or home delivery preferred.
  • Experience leading food safety, sanitation and public health programs within hospitality or food-service operations.
  • Expertise in incident investigation, root-cause analysis, emergency response and industrial hygiene, including exposure assessment and appropriate controls.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance, including air quality, stormwater, hazardous materials, waste management and permitting requirements such as NPDES, RCRA and Title V.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or comparable safety and environmental management systems preferred.
  • CSP, CIH, CHMM or comparable professional certification preferred.
