Purpose: The Senior Director R&D Strategic Business Operations in Innovative Medicine R&D is responsible for leading and overseeing multiple optimization projects within global R&D and potentially with other departments in J&J. This role will help to transform the way R&D operates. The role requires strong project management skills, as well as a strategic mindset to optimize business operations and drive down development costs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of pharmaceutical R&D processes, excellent communication and leadership abilities, and a track record of successfully managing cross functional initiatives with a focus on cost saving & efficiency. Continuous improvement and stakeholder management are also key aspects of this role. The Business Operation Project Leader will play a vital role in driving operational efficiency, ensuring successful project implementation, and contributing to the overall advancement of pharmaceutical research and development.
You will be responsible for:- Leading process optimization and business transformation initiatives across Innovative Medicine R&D, ensuring successful execution, risk management, and delivery against established timelines.
- Developing and implementing operational strategies that improve efficiency, simplify processes, optimize resource utilization, and support cost-saving objectives.
- Managing project portfolios, budgets, resources, timelines, and key performance indicators to drive successful implementation and achievement of business objectives.
- Building partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to drive alignment, support decision making, and ensure successful adoption of strategic initiatives.
- Leading change management and continuous improvement efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration.
- Leading contract simplification initiatives and partnering with Legal, Procurement, GSINC, and other global functions to support business operations and organizational transformation.
- Leading and developing teams in a matrix environment, fostering collaboration, accountability, engagement, and high performance.
- Supporting seamless integration with GSINC (Global Simplification & Innovation in Contracting)
- Interfacing with global functions like Legal and Procurement
- Managing all contract simplification initiatives
Qualifications / Requirements:- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required. An Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Engineering preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years in project management/leadership in a pharmaceutical environment, preferably R&D.
- Experience in contracting and/or procurement required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong influencing skills with the ability to build relationships across functional areas.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and negotiate complex business decisions.
- Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and timelines.
- Experience leading people in a matrix organization, including direct people management and/or leadership of cross-functional teams.
- Up to 10% domestic and international travel required.

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation -120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado -48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington -56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays -13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave - 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
