What you will do:

We are seeking a Director, Claims - Property to lead and manage primarily Property claims within the Property Division. Over time, the role may include handling complex Inland Marine and/or Product Recall claims.

This role is field-based for large and complex losses that may require in-person site meetings and will be remote for other responsibilities. The Director is accountable for claim outcomes across their portfolio, including severe and complex matters. Responsibilities include conducting on-site meetings, inspections, and investigations with insureds, public adjusters, and other relevant experts.

The Director will directly handle and oversee direct-written primary and lead primary E&S property claims, while also providing oversight of Program/TPA-administered claims.

Working closely with front-line claim professionals and claim leadership, the Director will support enterprise-wide initiatives that positively impact financial results. This includes ensuring timely and appropriate coverage analysis, claim investigation, damages evaluation, reserving, and disposition strategy, supported by clear action plans that drive fair and equitable resolutions.

The role also includes coordinating response and hotline operations, directing consultants and vendors, and monitoring claim developments. For litigated matters, the Director will ensure appropriate panel counsel is assigned and that litigation strategies are developed and executed effectively.

Overall, this position requires strong technical claims expertise, field engagement, TPA oversight, hotline management, and collaboration with internal and external partners to ensure the effective adjustment of complex claims and alignment with sound business strategy.

What YOU will bring to C&F:
  • The ideal candidate should have a minimum of ten (10) continuous years' experience involving complex commercial field claim adjusting, coverage analysis, and claim strategy.
  • Demonstrates experience in communication and collaboration with business partners including, Underwriting, Actuary, Risk Engineering, SIU, Legal, Reinsurance, Auditing and Operations.
  • Ten (10) years of continuous responsibility in complex claim handling, litigation management, technical leadership or training, supervisory, or management role.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities in resolving complex claims, coverage and operational enhancements.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical skills to use metrics and other data to manage the organization.
  • Proficient abilities in Microsoft Office Suite, including Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and other claim related systems or technologies.
  • Committed to operational development and excellence by process improvement, expense management, workflow optimization, and effective management of LAE.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and collaboration skills, with the ability to mentor, and work effectively across many internal teams.
  • Adaptable, self-directed, and responsive in a fast-paced environment with changing business priorities.
  • Demonstrates initiative and accountability, by taking ownership to obtain the highest quality claim outcomes.
  • Operates in a hybrid capacity, remote based with regular travel to assess losses on-site, discuss coverage, coordinate experts, and communicate recommendations to market carriers in the capacity of a lead carrier. A valid driver's license is required for this role.
  • Commercial claim experience required, preferred experience in Inland Marine and Product Recall claims. These product lines can be trained over time as well.
  • Must possess and maintain active Property and Casualty Adjuster license in Texas and Florida. Additional state license as necessary to adjust claims for the department.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience is required.
