The Director, Project Management – Transformation & Execution is responsible for leading enterprise-wide strategic initiatives that drive profitable growth, operational excellence, manufacturing optimization, supply chain resiliency, and organizational effectiveness across the Automation & Motion Control (AMC) segment. This position serves as a key business leader responsible for translating strategy into execution through disciplined program management, cross-functional collaboration, long-range operational planning, and data-driven decision-making.
The Director, Project Management partners with executive leadership to identify, prioritize, and execute strategic initiatives that improve business performance while ensuring the organization has the capacity, flexibility, capabilities, and investment plans necessary to support future growth. This role provides leadership in manufacturing network strategy, capacity planning, supply chain optimization, capital investment planning, and enterprise transformation initiatives.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations, AMC, the Director, Project Management works closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, Commercial, and Supply Management leaders to drive sustainable business results across a global manufacturing footprint.
Key Responsibilities
The Director, Project Management will also assume the following strategic responsibilities:
Strategic Program & Project Leadership
Lead complex, cross-functional strategic programs and initiatives that support growth, operational excellence, productivity improvement, and business transformation.
Develop and execute comprehensive project plans, governance structures, timelines, resource requirements, and success metrics for critical business initiatives.
Establish program management standards, tools, and reporting mechanisms to improve visibility, accountability, and execution discipline across the organization.
Facilitate collaboration among Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, Commercial, Finance, and other functional teams to ensure alignment and effective execution.
Monitor project performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), providing regular updates to executive leadership regarding progress, risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
Identify, assess, and proactively manage project risks, resource constraints, and competing priorities.
Lead organizational change management efforts that ensure successful implementation, adoption, and sustainment of new processes, systems, and capabilities.
Develop executive communications, project status reports, business cases, and strategic recommendations to support decision-making.
Drive accountability for project execution and ensure initiatives deliver measurable operational and financial results.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to remove barriers and accelerate achievement of strategic objectives.
Manufacturing Network & Operations Strategy
Define and execute manufacturing footprint strategies that optimize production location decisions, enhance operational flexibility, improve service levels, and support long-term business objectives.
Assess current manufacturing capabilities and capacity across the network to identify opportunities for optimization, consolidation, expansion, or investment.
Develop strategic recommendations regarding plant loading, product transfers, insourcing, outsourcing, and facility utilization.
Partner with business leaders to align manufacturing strategies with customer requirements, growth objectives, and financial goals.
Lead network optimization initiatives that improve cost competitiveness, responsiveness, and operational resilience.
Capacity Planning & Growth Readiness
Develop and maintain long-range capacity planning models that support projected business growth, new product introductions, product transitions, and technology adoption.
Evaluate future manufacturing requirements and identify capacity constraints that could impact growth objectives.
Establish standardized methodologies for assessing capacity, capability, utilization, and future resource requirements across all manufacturing sites.
Partner with Operations, Sales, and Supply Chain teams to align capacity strategies with demand forecasts and strategic growth plans.
Ensure manufacturing capabilities are positioned to support both short-term and long-term market requirements.
Supply Chain Strategy & Risk Management
Partner with Supply Chain and Operations teams to evaluate sourcing strategies and conduct make-versus-buy analyses that support business objectives.
Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through strategies such as dual sourcing, supplier diversification, capacity assessments, and business continuity planning.
Evaluate supply network resiliency and recommend actions to improve flexibility, risk mitigation, and operational continuity.
Lead scenario planning exercises related to supply disruptions, demand variability, sourcing alternatives, and manufacturing constraints.
Support strategic supplier and sourcing decisions by evaluating operational, financial, and risk implications.
Capital Investment Planning
Develop long-term capital investment roadmaps that support growth, operational efficiency, technology advancement, quality improvement, and manufacturing flexibility.
Partner with Operations, Engineering, Finance, and executive leadership to prioritize capital investments across the manufacturing network.
Develop business cases and financial analyses that support investment decisions.
Evaluate expected returns, risks, and operational benefits associated with proposed capital expenditures.
Monitor execution and performance of strategic capital projects to ensure intended business outcomes are achieved.
Business Analysis & Strategic Planning
Conduct scenario modeling and business simulations to evaluate capacity, cost, service, investment, and risk tradeoffs.
Analyze operational and financial performance data to identify opportunities for growth, productivity improvement, and risk reduction.
Provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership regarding manufacturing footprint, capacity expansion, sourcing strategy, and investment priorities.
Support annual strategic planning processes through development of actionable roadmaps and implementation plans.
Drive data-based decision-making that balances growth opportunities, customer requirements, operational capabilities, and financial performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, supply chain, strategy, project management, or business transformation.
Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-functional strategic initiatives with measurable business impact.
Strong project and program management expertise, including governance, execution, risk management, and stakeholder management.
Experience developing manufacturing footprint, capacity planning, network optimization, or operational strategy initiatives.
Strong understanding of make-versus-buy methodologies, supply chain strategy, and risk mitigation practices.
Experience developing capital investment plans, business cases, and strategic operational roadmaps.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial acumen.
Experience building scenario models and evaluating strategic business alternatives.
Proven ability to influence and lead within a complex, matrixed organization.
Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and executive engagement skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships and lead through influence across multiple functions and organizational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or advanced degree.
Experience in aerospace, industrial manufacturing, motion control, automation, or related industries.
Experience leading global, multi-site operations or strategic initiatives.
Knowledge of Lean, Continuous Improvement, operational excellence, and change management methodologies.
Experience utilizing ERP, planning, analytics, and business intelligence tools to support strategic decision-making.
Additional Requirements
50% travel required, domestic and international, based on business needs
Pay Transparency
Expected Base Salary Range: $158,000 – $230,000
The salary range provided is intended to display the value of the company's base pay compensation for this position. Salary is dependent on a multitude of factors, including but not limited to the physical worksite location, the geographic market of that location, candidate's skill set, level of experience, education and internal peer compensation comparisons among other potential factors.
