Wells Fargo’s Global Payments & Liquidity (GPL) team is an integrated, forward-looking product organization with end-to-end payments, data, liquidity and associated lending solutions that enable our clients to achieve their business objectives in an evolving digital world. 

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Business Accountability Director (Product and Platform Risk) to join the Global Liquidity and Payments (GPL) line of business.

The ideal candidate is a proven leader with extensive experience across payments, liquidity, platform management, risk governance, and people leadership. Reporting directly to the Head of Business Accountability, this individual will leverage their expertise in product risk management, including oversight of high-risk clients, and their ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and industry standards governing payment and liquidity products. Deep knowledge of BSA/AML/CDD requirements and associated governance, controls, processes, and procedures will be essential.

This role is responsible for leading product and platform risk governance across Global Liquidity and Payments (GPL), including the establishment and oversight of product standards, inventory management, suitability frameworks, and product change risk assessment processes.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead product and platform risk governance across Global Liquidity and Payments (GPL), ensuring alignment with enterprise risk programs, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

  • Oversee governance routines for GPL products, including New Business Initiative (NBI) reviews, complex product reporting, and large or complex deal assessments.

  • Establish and maintain product risk standards, suitability frameworks, and policy-driven requirements, including standards for high-risk customer segments.

  • Monitor, assess, and escalate emerging product and platform risks through appropriate GPL governance forums.

  • Serve as a key liaison to Risk, Control, Legal, Compliance, Audit, Exam Management, and regulatory partners on product and platform risk matters.

  • Provide front-line oversight of product inventory, product risk profiles, client suitability, distribution channels, and pricing strategies.

  • Interpret and apply regulatory and policy requirements in partnership with Product, Risk, and Compliance subject matter experts.

  • Develop and enhance product risk metrics, reporting, and monitoring capabilities to identify trends, trigger events, and areas of elevated risk.

  • Assess product changes for risk and policy impact ensuring appropriate governance, approvals, and adherence to NBI requirements.

  • Lead and develop a team of risk professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Drive process optimization and control enhancements to strengthen risk management effectiveness and operational efficiency.

  • Influence and collaborate with senior leaders and key stakeholders across the business to proactively manage product delivery and platform risks.

  • Manage team priorities, resources, and execution against strategic objectives while supporting organizational growth and talent development.


Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of risk management, business controls, or compliance experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

  • 4+ years of management experience or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience leading front-line product risk, product governance, business controls, compliance, and operational risk functions within a large financial institution.

  • Strong knowledge of payments, liquidity, treasury management, or transaction banking products, including an understanding of product lifecycle management and associated risk considerations.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, or enhancing product risk frameworks, governance routines, and risk assessment programs, including New Business Initiatives (NBI) or equivalent product approval processes.

  • Experience managing regulatory risk and remediation programs.

  • Experience leading large-scale, cross-functional initiatives that span multiple business lines, risk disciplines, and stakeholder groups.

  • Strong understanding of how product, operational, compliance, technology, and customer risks intersect with financial services organizations.

  • Experience supporting significant product, platform, or technology implementations and transformations from a risk, governance, or control perspective.

  • Exceptional executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders, navigate organizational complexity, and build credibility across business, risk, audit, compliance, and regulatory partners.

  • Proven ability to lead through ambiguity, establish new operating models, and drive results in newly formed or rapidly evolving organizations.

Job Expectations:

  • This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

  • This position is a hybrid work model. Must be willing to work out of Charlotte, NC, Minneapolis, MN, Des Moines, IA, or Concord, CA approximately 3 days a week.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$185,000.00 - $300,000.00
