Full Job Description
Summary of Position:

The Director of Procurement & Strategic Sourcing will lead the strategic sourcing, procurement operations and supplier management functions. This highly visible role will own the full procurement lifecycle from strategic sourcing and contract negotiation through purchasing operations, systems optimization and procure-to-invoice process management. The Director will be responsible for establishing best-in-class procurement processes, optimizing supplier partnerships, and ensuring cost-effective purchasing while supporting the company's commercial, R&D and corporate operations.

The ideal candidate brings deep procurement experience within commercial and late-stage pharmaceutical organizations, including expertise in negotiating commercial, CRO, CMC, G&A and professional services agreements.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives across clinical, CMC, commercial, G&A, technology and professional services spend categories.
  • Negotiate complex agreements, including CRO, CMC, commercial services, consulting, SaaS and enterprise vendor contracts.
  • Develop sourcing strategies, vendor selection processes, supplier negotiations, and ongoing supplier performance management.
  • Partner cross-functionally with G&A, Commercial and R&D organizations to support sourcing and contracting needs.

Procurement Operations & Purchasing Management
  • Own day-to-day procurement operations, including purchasing workflows, purchase requisitions, PO management, approvals, vendor onboarding, and procure-to-invoice activities.
  • Ensure procurement activities align with company policies, delegation of authority, financial controls and public company requirements.
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting to support purchasing controls, spend visibility, accruals, invoice management, and budget alignment.
  • Establish and maintain scalable procurement processes appropriate for a lean organization.

Procurement Systems, Process Improvement & Governance
  • Serve as internal business owner for procurement processes and systems.
  • Identify and resolve process inefficiencies, system configuration issues, and workflow bottlenecks across the procurement lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement operations.
  • Partner with external vendors, IT, Finance and other business stakeholders to define, prioritize and optimize systems and processes.
  • Develop procurement reporting, spend analytics and dashboards to improve visibility, compliance and decision-making.
  • Support system implementations, upgrades, testing, training and change management initiatives related to procurement operations.

Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Life Sciences or related field
  • 10+ years of procurement, strategic sourcing or supply chain experience within biotech, pharmaceutical or life sciences organizations
  • Experience with procurement systems and P2P tools (Coupa and NetSuite preferred)
  • Professional procurement certification (e.g., CPSM) is a plus
  • Experience supporting commercial and/or late-stage clinical organizations
  • Experience leading system and process optimizations initiatives

Skills and Abilities:
  • Public company experience and familiarity with SOX controls, governance and compliance expectations
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex contracts across multiple spend categories, including CRO and CMC agreements
  • Strong commercial negotiation skills, contract acumen and supplier management expertise
  • Experience establishing procurement processes, controls and governance frameworks in a growing organization
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, lean and evolving environment
