How you’ll contribute  

A Physician Services Director who excels in this role: 

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for Highpoint Health – Sumner physician practices, ensuring clinic operations support organizational, financial, quality, and patient experience objectives.

  • Oversee day-to-day physician practice and outpatient clinic operations, partnering closely with providers, practice managers, staff, and hospital leadership.

  • Build and maintain strong, credible relationships with physicians and other providers; serve as a trusted operational partner while establishing clear expectations and accountability.

  • Monitor practice performance, including financial and operational metrics, to identify trends, performance gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Analyze practice financials to understand key performance drivers, recognize areas that are off target, and develop and execute appropriate mitigation or improvement plans.

  • Proactively identify operational challenges, evaluate root causes, and develop solutions with minimal direction or oversight.

  • Develop and implement departmental goals, plans, policies, and standards consistent with organizational, regulatory, clinical, and ethical requirements.

  • Lead staffing and workforce activities, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, staff development, corrective action, and succession planning.

  • Coach and develop practice leaders and staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, professional growth, and continuous improvement.

  • Prepare, monitor, and manage departmental budgets and resources to support responsible financial performance.

  • Address complex or sensitive employee, provider, patient, and operational concerns, including situations requiring candid or difficult conversations.

  • Evaluate workflows, service levels, technology utilization, and other operational processes to improve efficiency, quality, and the patient/provider experience.

  • Support internal and external audits and ensure physician practices maintain compliance with applicable healthcare regulations, organizational policies, and HIPAA requirements.

  • Lead and coordinate multiple initiatives simultaneously, effectively prioritizing work, delegating responsibilities, and allocating resources.

  • Partner with hospital and system leadership on strategic and operational initiatives affecting physician services and the broader continuum of care.

 

What we’re looking for 
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare administration, finance, or a related field; MBA or other advanced business-related degree preferred. Additional requirements include: 

  • Direct experience supporting or leading physician services, physician practices, or outpatient clinic operations strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience with responsibility for people, operations, performance management, and organizational results.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to establish credibility and productive partnerships with physicians/providers, practice leaders, employees, and senior leadership.

  • Working knowledge of physician practice financial and operational performance, including the ability to interpret financial results, identify performance drivers and variances, and develop corrective action plans.

  • Strong business and financial acumen; prior finance experience is beneficial but not required.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, independently assess complex situations, and bring forward thoughtful, actionable solutions.

  • Ability to establish clear expectations, hold others accountable, and navigate difficult or sensitive conversations professionally and constructively.

  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into operational decisions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and competing operational needs in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance requirements, including HIPAA.

  • Proficiency with standard business technology, including email, spreadsheets, presentations, data reporting, and related applications.
