Job Description:

The Director of Volunteer Network provides strategic leadership for the ASU Alumni Association's volunteer network, including geographic, affinity, and international chapters, clubs, and connections. This role develops and executes strategies to recruit, engage, and retain a global network of volunteer ambassadors who serve as extensions of the Alumni Association and Arizona State University. Through leadership development, relationship management, and operational oversight, the Director ensures a sustainable volunteer network that strengthens alumni engagement, advances the ASU story, and supports the University's mission.

This position is in-person, Monday through Friday at Old Main on the Tempe campus. Some nights and weekends may be required based on the Alumni events schedule, as needed.

Position Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for the volunteer network by growing and sustaining volunteer ambassadors, strengthening existing chapters and communities, guiding leadership succession, establishing best practices, and measuring the effectiveness and impact of volunteer engagement initiatives.
  • Provide strategic oversight of chapter operations, programming, events, and volunteer support to ensure a consistent, high-quality experience that fosters alumni engagement and aligns with the goals of the Alumni Association.
  • Oversee departmental and chapter budgets, financial stewardship, operational processes, administrative support, and systems that enable effective chapter management and organizational accountability.
  • Lead and develop the team responsible for volunteer engagement, chapter operations, events, and administrative support, fostering a collaborative, service-focused culture that delivers high-quality programs and support to the volunteer network.
  • Partner with internal and university stakeholders to align volunteer initiatives with institutional priorities, enhance alumni engagement, and identify opportunities to improve programs, processes, and technology.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in alumni relations, volunteer management, community relations, or non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience managing professional staff, cross-functional teams, or complex advisory boards.
  • Proven track record of successfully recruiting, onboarding, training, and motivating high-level volunteer leaders and regional chapter officers.
  • Experience managing budgets and allocating resources effectively across multiple regional networks.
  • Experience with alumni management software, CRM systems (such as Salesforce), and digital volunteer portals.
  • Experience conceptualizing and launching hybrid, virtual, and large-scale in-person events.
  • Demonstrated success in leveraging digital community-building platforms and social technologies to engage, train and retain remote volunteers.


Working Environment:
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Some duties are performed outside of the office setting in various areas in and around campus, which will require standing for varying lengths of time and walking moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
