Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Director of User Services, Librarian Associate Professor or Librarian Professor faculty position in the Kennesaw State University Libraries with a preferred start date of December 2026. This is a twelve-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

User Services provides frontline information support services that connect the KSU community and library visitors to library resources. The unit coordinates and maintains reference services such as chat reference, library FAQs, and the transaction reporting system. User Services also manages resource sharing activities that expand the scope of materials available for scholarship including ILL, GIL Express, ARCHE, repository, intra-campus, document delivery, and purchase on demand. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead the effective and efficient operation of User Services for the University Libraries on both the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses.
  • Directly supervise and manage unit employees including hiring, training, mentoring, establishing workloads, setting expectations, and completing reviews.
  • Create, review, and update policies, procedures, and workflows for the unit.
  • Identify, develop, and advocate for training or professional development opportunities for the unit.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple constituencies inside and outside of the library and university to improve and develop services for the unit.
  • Participate on the University Libraries' leadership team to identify issues, proactively solve problems, collaborate on projects, and inform strategic direction and planning.
  • Teach classes for the Journey Honors College
  • Engage in service to the University Libraries, the campus, or the profession.
  • Contribute to the development of the library profession and/or subject-specific discipline through scholarship, presentations, and publications.

Because our libraries are open 7 days a week and, in the evenings, the position will occasionally be required to work during these times to serve the needs of the students. This position will work on both the Kennesaw and Marietta campuses.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, appropriate to a contemporary research-intensive library, such as an MLIS, or other related equivalent terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent.
  • 3 years or more of supervisory experience
  • 5 years or more of experience as a librarian in an academic library


Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Experience working in a consortia environment with a shared ILS
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working at an academic library customer service point
  • Experience with resource sharing services
